To get some indication of how the team has changed since TW has been at the club I compared this week's team to Round 22 of 2004. There were 14 players who played last night that did not play that last game in 2004.

The table below lists the 14 players that have changed since that game. I have attempted to align similar player types.

Rnd 22 2004 Players Players who played last night

Wayne Campbell Kane Johnson
Andrew Kellaway Chris Newman
Mark Chaffey Dean Polo
Tim Fleming Jake King
David Rodan Nathan Foley
Ben Marsh Troy Simmonds
Luke Weller Patrick Bowden
Bill Nicholls Shane Edwards
Justin Blumfield Richard Tambling

Nathan Brown Brett Deledio
Mark Coughlan Shane Tuck
Brent Hartigan Kane Pettifer
Ray Hall Graham Polak
Daniel Jackson Luke McGuane

There were 8 other players who played in both games.

I believe that on the whole the new 14 players are better than the 14 players replaced, particularly when you compare Simmonds, Edwards and Tambling to Marsh, Nicholls and Blumfield. Certainly I believe the new players have more potential than the 14 replaced.

I acknowledge this is a fairly simple analysis but it does appear the team has improved and certainly has more potential to improve.

One would expect the team to be better than 2004 when we only one 4 games and kicked over 100 points once (105 pts) and that low finish allowed some early draft picks. I guess the real question is has the team improved enough? Probably only time will tell and will depend on the development of Hughes, Casserley, JON, Pattison and Meyer over the next two years.

That's interesting ICE.  On paper our 2007 team certainly looks better but we seem pretty stagnant performance wise.  I'm disappointed we haven't shown much obvious improvement in the 3 year's Terry has had influence over our list.  Will be interesting to see if we're just off to a sluggish start and will pick up as the season progresses or if what we're seeing is what we're are and we are in for a seasonus horribilus.

If we finish last this year, the biggest comparison will be the amount of PRE's who will be logged in on national draft day.

Rosy will be popping the champagne bottle, a new record of ONLINE, is on the cards.

Well, there may certainly be a new record of darksider postings after we draft 4 flankers and use our last pick on a spectulative tall :P

Would you blame the intelligence of the darksiders if we draft 4 flunkers, afterall, the Jack Dyer Stand at Punt Road is screaming for KPP's & rucks.

We will pop the corks a few years later when we know they have drafted the right players. Not on draft day.
