Completely left field

1. CHB or loose man in defence. Problem is his disposal will be erratic and unpredictable.
2. Leave him where he is. Problem is his disposal will be erratic and unpredictable.
3. Roaming around the ground. Problem is his disposal will be erratic and unpredictable, BUT his aerobic capacity and marking ability would break many who played on him.
4. Can't wait for the real Generation Next. Problem is his disposal will be erratic and unpredictable, until that time.

My vote would be 3. or 1.

Make your last years count Richo, make them, genuinely, count !

Richo's retirement train will be embarking in the future, even sooner if he is truck with injuries. Do we really want to burn him out running around all over the ground? I say no. Let's enjoy Richo's twilight years and play him where he knows best.

We never saw Plugger, Dunstall, Ablett Snr., or even Roach play down back to develop their future fowards at the time.
Actually Roach senior and Ablett snr. both started on a wing, which is nearly down back.

Please don't experiment with Richo, he has enough trouble trying to do what he has been doing for the last 33 years.

All the above are creative responses to what seems a well thought out post from Waiting ::)

A few reasons in point form:
- our best forward
- short-term option
- one of our least accountable players
- makes more mistakes than anyone at the club
- would have to forsake his natural attacking mindset for a defensive one at 33yo

That just shows you are behind the times. Good backmen have ATTACKING MINDESTS not defensive ones. Looka t Geelong or hawthorn, where does there attack start from - the Backline. Whydoes Mcleod play half back at Adelaide????

i don't mind the idea of richo at CHB. he still has the motor to run off and be creative, i would like to see him on reiwolt awhen we play the saints, have said so for years. He is still one of the best contested marks in the game and his ATTACKING MINDSET would be an asset in the backline.

I like the idea

at least if richo played CHB on a good CHF he would get to see parts of the ground he is not use to ; the corridor..... >:D

Jay(who cannot play forward with Richo),

Judging by Jay's game in the two's last week, he might be struggling to play next to JR as well.

A huge pre season in the gym for Polak could see him take full back, this would release Joel either to a midfield role, wing or even half forward.

Suggestions ?????????????????????
Why would we want to release Joel from defense when he plays the quaterback role so well for us?
That's like Port Power moving Chad Cornes into the midfield or attack. Won't happen for the same reason.

a fit Browny, Tambo, Krak, Deleido changing in the middle would be unprectidable and hard to match up all of these players. It would be exciting watching them all play together.

A huge pre season in the gym for Polak could see him take full back, this would release Joel either to a midfield role, wing or even half forward. Richo at centre half back. This will give time for the likes of Will. Moore and Mcguane to have another pre season in the gym to build their bodies for next year could be Richo's last and finals may beckon the big fella.
Take a look at the midfield rotations of opposition clubs, and you might find they already have twice as many rotations as our side. Let the midfield develop with some polished youngsters with decent skills, and the efforts of Hughes, Jay and JR will take care of themselves up forward. Richo gets kicks in our forward line because he's a freak at winning the contested ill directed delivery. The others, like most other forwards in the comp. aren't that freaky!

Let Polak stay at his current weight which isn't too light for the role he plays.

Richo in an Adam Goodes style role. Like that idea! Engine still strong, only concern is that it might sto him a year earlier.

I'd prefer to see him play an Adam Goodes style role. Just run all over the ground winning possesions, taking grabs.

I don't mind this for a suggestion.

I'd love to see him taking marks all over the place and giving hands off to running players. Often when he does take marks outside 50 there is no clear handball option to go to.If we could sort that out it would be great.

Not sure about the backline though. His kicking is too up-and-under for coming out of defence. You need to be able to hit a free team-mate before his opponent can get to him.

Goodes has excellent disposal skills and a quick brain for that sort of role. Richo would get the ball for sue, just struggle to see the benefits once he's got the ball in his hands unfortunately.

So you keep telling me.

Defenders are called such because they are frequently forced to defend as well as attack. Richo's a ball-watcher and IMO would be drawn to the contest while his opponent snuck off for easy goals. It's probably a moot point anyway as I reckon TW would give up his membership at the solarium before trying to turn Richo into a backman.
