Confirm? N. Ablett has quit

Of all the 22 players who donned the catters' jumper in the GF, he's probably the one they can most afford to let go.

Who cares fair dinkum.

The kid had a go gave it what 3 odd years when he didnt even want to play AFL in the first place.

Won a flag is forever in history books for that so good on him.

He has the rest of his life to possibly regret this decision but for all we know this is the best decision for the fella if his heart aint innit and its a chore for him then he has done the right thing by the club, the fans and his team mates.

If his name werent Ablett he wouldnt have got the cotton wooling he did, nor would he have got away this this behaviour imo.

I think when looking at the Cats draft they may have had an inkling that he was going as they drafted a few KPP didnt they in Harry Taylor, Scott Simopson and another whose name escapes me.

mckenna

they prob knew about nablett a long time ago so thats why instead of a 18yr old like selwood they went for the ready made taylor

they wont lose anything on the field because hawkins will be a much better player but it does start to test their depth a bit, geelong vfl has lost a lot of premiership players

Agree. Was given chances that he probably wouldn't have received if not for the name. Maybe has felt pressured in playing AFL footy. Has decided it's not where he wants to be so good luck to him whatever he decides to achieve. Footy isn't the be and end all for everone.

Kid never had any interest in playing AFL footy or having the media crawling all over his arse like a pack of summer blowflies.
It's not his fault his surname is Ablett and half the nation expected the sun to shine every time he bent over.
Geelong spent three years pushing and nudging him into an AFL career that was never on his list of priorities.
Good luck to the kid for having the sense and the courage to pack up his kit and walk away with dignity. He got pushed in and had a crack against his better judgement, gets to walk away with the gold prize and hopefully will get left alone to live his life as he sees fit.

Don't know what game u where watching, But Mooney had a great season and has turned into a very good player.

The game where he gets spoonfed every 30 seconds by elite midfielders....

Great season ? How the hell could you tell ? Anyone would look good in the forward line for geelong with the quality and amount of delivery they get.

Still need someone to finish off. I reckon he provided a bit more than that to the team structure ie contests, aggression, physicality

Was All Australian wasnt he?
nowhere near all-Australian. One of a few at Geelong not to get all-australian selection.

Ablett will be no real loss as the cats have many other players who will fill the void.

Think some are talking about a different player.
Think it was referring to mention regarding Mooney.

We did try to convince him to come to Tigerland when we had an early pick one year, but cannot recall which draft we wanted him in.

From all reports he did not want to play anyway, so why would you want to when fools on forums start rumours about him being dead....

I hope people leave the guy alone so he can enjoy his life in peace. :)

I'd welcome him at Richmond any day. If he ever got serious about his footy he could be a sensation up forward. He has all the natural skills but as yet very little muscle definition or shown any real match hard fitness.

Dont forget about the family traits. Dad went walkabout up the bush from Hawthorn. Uncle Geoff joined us from Hawthorn. Cousin Shane went walkabout from Hawthorn before ending up with us.

His father Gary is not real happy with Bomber Thompson either:-

Ablett was also upset by comments made about his son's potential retirement by Geelong premiership coach Mark Thompson, in which Thompson suggested that the recent publicity surrounding Ablett snr may have been a factor in the 21-year-old's shock decision last week to walk away from AFL football.

"I find Mark Thompson's admission that Nathan's retirement may have been in part to do with my recent interview both offensive and naive, to say the least," Ablett said. "I would have expected a little more discretion and maturity from a man in his position."
