Corey "the slow boat to GC17" Ellis

Re: Welcome to the RFC - Corey Ellis

Yep. needs a massive uninterrupted pre-season more than anyone on our list.

Agree Mole. He looked a class above at VFL level. I absolutely love the way he uses the footy. Often linking play multiple times in the one movement.

IMO he really needs to work on his strength in the gym this summer.
Main issue is the lad needs to be much stronger physically.
Got to be AFL match hardened to have an impact.

This is the problem, and it's one that's been repeated by Francis and Blair over the journey.
He might have the skills but that's less than useful if he wont have the body.

We need orthodox players in the side. We can't build a team on exceptions.

We need a heavy inside midfielder, not a skinny one. And we need a running half back, not a static one.

I think this is the biggest issue that Bully and I have had with what we do at the draft table.

Don't try and outsmart everyone every year. The most obvious pick is normally the right one.

As for Ellis, he needs to be as Spook has said, a Nick Dal Santo clone. That's the game style he needs to play.

Re: Welcome to the RFC - Corey Ellis

Remember vividly Bullus having massive concerns that he doesn't get enough ball pre draft.

To me that's where Hardwick needs to change it up next year in the midfield.

Corey, Vlas more midfield role time next year.

With Prestia possibly coming in our midfield has changed.

To me at times and don't shoot me down CEllis reminds of Pendles!

He does move in a similar way - From that perspective I understand your comment ...

I wonder if he will add the required bulk and fitness this offseason to be a regular next year.

I dont reckon players like him need to get a whole lot of ball.

If Burgoyne gets 20 hes had a day out.

Frank's first round record sows some big doubt in all our heads, but I reckon this kid'll be awright.

Re: Welcome to the RFC - Corey Ellis

He needs to TTAV.!

If he wants more midfield time and to develop his game to the next level he will need to put on some decent upper body size.

He is not slow either true.

Re: Welcome to the RFC - Corey Ellis

Looks to have lost some weight in his break, according to pic on twitter

Pencil thin

Re: Welcome to the RFC - Corey Ellis

How many games we going to get out of him tbis year hope 20. Hope his body can take the crash and bash cos it seems to me thats how the good sides will play 2017 attack and smash your way forward

Re: Welcome to the RFC - Corey Ellis

Dosent have the tank of his namesake, however with 2/3s of his posessions I'd imagine he'd have a greater impact playing in the same role.

Re: Welcome to the RFC - Corey Ellis

Coming into 3rd season, we really need to see Corey stepping up. Suspect he will either be play off HB or HF initially but be given shots through the middle. Reckon we will rotate mids through the forward line quite a bit this year rather than play too many forwards.

Had only 3 games of 20+ possessions in his 17 games. Needs to get his average up to the 20 mark this year IMO. He uses the ball really well, we just need the ball in his hands more.

Hopefully big season coming up.

I agree measured post.

I would also like more tackling and overall more mongrel as he really looked like a boy against men last year.

Re: Welcome to the RFC - Corey Ellis

He's ok looks silky but have concerns he can't get it and above all else I am concerned that he is timid which is a nice way of putting it for someone that is scared

Re: Welcome to the RFC - Corey Ellis

Dont think he will ever be a bull, But if he gets some confidence and the ability to feel at home he could become a decent footballer but dont think he will ever be an elite mid. B-B+ grader at best i think

He was a boy against men last season and wasn't playing in a position that suited him but he did OK so hope for an injury free 2017 to see how he goes. I am quietly confident

We constantly played players out of position this year to try and find a half back flanker thats any good. We tried B Ellis, McIntosh and C Ellis down there before we found Markov and Short could play down there.

I'm expecting C Ellis to play through the middle a bit more this year, maybe rotating off a HFF into the midfield. If he can get his touches up to 20 average then he will be going ok and I think once he fills out a bit more will end up being a good player for us. Doubt he will be a superstar but can certainly end up being a better version of Grigg for us IMO.

its interesting how people rate individuals. Chris Newman primarily played the same role CE has been asked to play (so far) at Richmond, yet he's expected to average 20 possessions in his 3rd year of footy while CN averaged 15.9 disposals for his entire career and was loved by many fans. not saying I disagree with the above comments btw, its just interesting how people look at things.

I agree with you, but my thinking is he should be pushing more into the midfield this year rather than being based off half back. He needs to transition into the role that Grigg currently play for us.

Re: Welcome to the RFC - Corey Ellis

I want him trying to kick into our forward line. He doesn't have enough run to create off half back for mine.
