I have concerns about this kid.

No mention of him as being a standout in the time trials. Needs a big year to justify his early selection.

Hear you Aces but we need to look at the context. Year 1 was the usual baptism of fire. Did fairly well IMO.

Last year the entire system broke down. Ellis was protected from the worst of the pack damage but couldn't get on the end of the chain cos it was broken more often than not.

Ball movement was so slow and spasmodic that even our loose ball master (B Ellis) struggled.

Needs just a little more time and patience.

I am still not sure where he is best suited on the park. His lack of pace is the concern. Too slight to play inside midfield and too slow to play on the outside. Half back seems like the logical spot. Quarter back style.

Re: Welcome to the RFC - Corey Ellis

Forgot about Feldman. Should be a break out year.

Re: Welcome to the RFC - Corey Ellis

Bit harsh but no doubt a couple of times it looked like he pulled up short.
To me he's looked too sleight in size and a little concerned at the larger, AFL hardened bodies on occasion.
FWIW his Dad isn't a big person so he may be battling genetically to add size and could be struggling with the transition to the highest level. Injuries have been regular..
However what not in doubt is that Corey has some silky skills.
I hope he goes to another level this year because expectations of him have certainly increased.
If he can we will be a better side because of it...

Re: Welcome to the RFC - Corey Ellis

Corey Ellis will be fine. He is a footballer not an athlete

This site is like a giant game of chinese whispers sometimes. He is not slow and he isn't a squib, he is however not lightning quick nor a contested beast.

He is a footballer with a killer left leg. Get the ball in his hands 20 times a game and we will see his value.

Re: Welcome to the RFC - Corey Ellis

Beautiful user of the ball. I'd love to see him eventually used as an outside midfielder. Imagine his passes to leading forwards.

Re: Welcome to the RFC - Corey Ellis

Could we use him like a Cameron Ling type of player maybe?

Re: Welcome to the RFC - Corey Ellis

hard to believe ppl are knocking this guy, give him a decent run at it without injuries & he'll come good.

Re: Welcome to the RFC - Corey Ellis

Has plenty of time on his side. Reminds me a little of Aaron Fiora , hopefully turns out much better.

He has time but not forever. Expectations of him improving this year are not unfair.

Correct.

Third year in the system. Time to give us more than just glimpses.

Will struggle to get separation, sprint times poor for an outside player. Tank only average. Was recruited as an inside mid so he'll just have to work on that aspect of his game. I'd like to think Nick Dal Santo but does he have the mass? Hopefully that will come in due course.

Re: Welcome to the RFC - Corey Ellis

Example of what has been the key problem with the joint. We recruit a powder puff for the role of inside mid.

Wasted pick.

Menadue has added 7 kgs in his time at the club whilst Corey is still the same weight 75kgs ( menadue is now 76kgs)
Menadue is fast and has a great tank, also looks like he doesnt mind getting his head knocked off during the process

Corey can kick the ball

Lever/Weller would have been nice

as rare as hens teeth but I agree with you for once Sinner. however his slight build is a definite concern.

I thought of the Dal Santo comparison too. What did he weigh in at the start of his 3rd year?

FWIW, NDS played 18 games in his first season, only averaging 10.6 disposals. CEllis has only played 17 in his first 2 years but has over 15 possies a game.

Definately needs to start adding the mass he will need, but I think he needs to model his game on NDS, similat silky skills, just needs to add weight and the rest should come.
