Corey "the slow boat to GC17" Ellis

Re: Welcome to the RFC - Corey Ellis

At this stage, he doesn't have the strength that he needs to compete properly and he knows it. That is a hard gig for anyone. I still remember a young Jarryd Roughead pulling out of marking contests in his early years when the likes of Barry Hall, Warren Tredrea and Richo charged towards him. He knew he was going to get hurt and he had zero chance of standing up to them.

Ten or so games in the seniors this year and another off season in the gym will see a different player next year.

Well to this point you have it nailed but - were not those stats and facets you have mentioned fully available to the recruiting department?
Who went in the spots immediately after him? Not Cockatoo i hope he is really starting to develop now in their system

They were available Merv, but as is the Richmond way we have developed an in-house system which completely disregards the stats provided by Champion Data. As to the alternatives, Cocky was snapped up by Wells but Frank didn't even bother to interview him, his mind was made up months before the draft, in fact he ranked Ellis 8th which was completely at odds with most of the scouting community. Weller would have been fine, Lever the perfect replacement for Chaplin, but no, we have to select a skinny kid who looks like being another one paced flanker. Since Brandon Ellis who ran a modest 3.04sec/20 metre sprint, every other first rounder apart from Rioli has been in the 3.10-3.20 range, pace simply isn't on the agenda, not to mention players who can rack up more than twenty touches a game. It's game, set, match for me, said it several years ago but Jackson has to go.

This might sound harsh but it was disappointing he did nothing but stand around like a little school boy whilst Viney was wrestling Rance after the Watts hit. What's Viney 20 , 21 years old? He took it up to Rance. He had no fear and no issues about taking on a bloke 10 kegs heavier than him.

Ellis just stood there watching. When instead he should have been flying the flag for his teammate irrespective of what he done.

That passage in a nutshell typifies our draftees of late. Nice kids with zero mongrel in them.

I didn't notice that on the night, but after seeing it again last night.
What was he doing?
Jump on him, do something, bump him, get him off Rance
But nothing walk around him.
Was gutted after watching that

Was very disappointing.

Agree. Keep playing him. Just not in the back pocket.

Dimma is an idiot.

Forgot about this. Back pocket is probably the worst position for him

This in house system terrifies me, trying far too hard to be clever. Every pick we've made in the past five years has been in the media three days before. And it's almost the same type. We don't value performance enough, the internal system is very generous on projections.

I just hope Ellis becomes 75% of the footballer we hoped for. But right now, it's a little hard to be positive. But I have seen flashes. Holding on to hope. We just can't afford another first rounder to be a part time impact player.

Re: Welcome to the RFC - Corey Ellis

I would be playing him off half forward with the stints in the middle. Would prefer his kicking into 50 instead of out of 50

Me too, but I think some kids are just not ready, even a year out of the U18's. Play him in the VFL until he can show what it takes to play with the big boys.

Re: Welcome to the RFC - Corey Ellis

Corey is coming for a lot of criticism, some of it valid but when you look at the dross around him who are giving him no support or advice it is no wonder he is floundering a little. Given time, tuition, bulk and more experience he could become a star. The potential is there and just needs nurturing.

Re: Welcome to the RFC - Corey Ellis

He doesn't need to be super quick, just get the ball and use it well. Look at Hodge.

He's still got a heap of learning and physical development to go.

And yes, he's not getting much help, guidance or direction from those around him.

Agree. I remember when knighter started he was as skinny, same with Campbell
No why is his fault that everyone has capitulated around him.
Not a defender. Wing/hF

Re: Welcome to the RFC - Corey Ellis

5.35 left 3rd qtr.

'Corey Ellis has got to take the fromt spot here'. healy

Was 2 metres behind his man 30 metres off a scrimmage.

He is learning how to play in the back line in the 1's

Was recruited as a mid. Wtf is the point

Re: Welcome to the RFC - Corey Ellis

Thought he was pretty good tonight, brought a bit of composure and good delivery to the back half.

Agree. CEllis and Menadue are the type who should play every game this year.

Re: Welcome to the RFC - Corey Ellis

Yep was pretty good. Is inconsistent but that's typical of a youngster. I reckon our game plan stinks atm and I don't think it helps our youngsters. I can't believe how static our movement is sometimes. It's something you really notice when you're at the game.
