The desire to march by many indigenous people yesterday would be enormously strong and I think comparing it to a desire and need to the go to the footy is not a valid comparison.

Given that it is common knowledge that the indigenous population was deemed to be most at risk from Covid-19, (why they were so desperate to keep NT Covid free), let's hope there are no outbreaks and that the virus, as a result of the protest, doesn't find it's way into the aboriginal community.

Given these mass scale protests have been allowed, can someone in Government please explain why we can’t go to the footy this Thursday now?

As someone else said the virus is not political. A crowd of 30k is a crowd of 30k. It’s either allowed or it’s not.

its evidence based decision making

studies show a Collingwood supporter is 16 times more likely to have a virus than a normal person.

did you see a single Collingwood jumper at The Deaths in Custody rally

Meanwhile Brazil's Trump-analog Bolsanoro has decided to stop publishing case/death rates.

Aside from the risk...

It'll be interesting to see what it does to the numbers. I find it difficult to believe it won't register given the known risk. Personally, will be returning to full hibernation for a month.
Not by design, but now that this has demo has occurred, the scientists will within a fortnight know a lot more about the extent of the virus in the community and its propensity to spread.

A) If we get a surge in numbers linked to those attending or there close contacts it shows That the virus is out there and spreads as predicted through crowds.

B) But if we don't get any material increase we can say that either the number of infected people is so low that even a mass event doesn't lead to spread OR that an outdoor event of this scale does not provide sufficient prolonged proximity to enable spread.

If numbers turn out to be low I would not buy the we dodged a bullet argument and the next big crowd might be the explosion. It's either a or b.

Kochie wanted to wear the Port "prison bar" jumper to the March but Eddie objected.

Yeah that is fair observation. Most protesters seemed to be wearing masks, so if there is no explosion in cases then it could influence policy thinking (not that the protesters had a mandate to conduct the experiment).

Just on that. Wasn’t there a report that there was one person infected with Covid-19 at the women’s World Cup final where there were over 86,000 spectators? I don’t know if this was verified, but if true, does anyone know how many others were infected from this event?

yeah, one hopes we won't see a significant spike due to the protests. Masks and social distancing may have helped, along with a very low number of asymptomatic carriers. We won't know for a couple of weeks.

The US is going to be interesting - I'm assuming there is a higher level of carriers in US cities than in Australia and with so many people protesting for ten days now the risk of a spike is pretty high.

NZ officially Coronavirus free.
Incredible leadership shown by Ardern has paid off.

She backed herself, below is a timeline of the NZ response.

As an aside, wnd who can forget the offensive, classless & embarrasing comments Alan Jones made towards her. Hopefully they played a part in his retirement.

But the country as a whole is crap at golf

Not quite true, a couple of major winners have emerged from NZ. Although no winners since Michael Campbell. They won't have lost ground to any Vic golfers at least.

Alan Jones was always a pig and the fact anyone listened to his show is an indictment on Australia.- probably equal to Abbott being elected.

Yep those countries that went with a 'herd mentality' have had the highest death rates by point of comparison.
Leadership in those countires have caused countless unnecessary deaths & should be held accountable by their electorates. Effectively manslaughter.

I think part of it was that it is/was a lot harder for most countries to insulate themselves like Aust & NZ could. How could they manage it effectively without all of Europe shutting down together?
