Ulcers, hot salty water. As hot and salty as you can, swish it around your gob. Spit. Repeat every hour.

The only old wives tale I know that truly works.
When I was a boy I suffered from mouth ulcers a bit and my mother always just took some salt and rubbed it lightly into the ulcer. Repeated as much as possible.
Always worked

Thanks. Sneezing my guts out. Is that common ?

Yes — I caught COVID at Easter - main symptom was sneezing and muscle fatigue - shortness of breath came later.

Still not over it - mowed the lawns yesterday (takes all of 30 mins) and needed to rest afterwards and I am/was previously very fit and healthy.

Best advice I can offer is to slow down - take the 2 weeks and do as little as possible.

Hasn't been a post in this thread for nearly 2 weeks

As someone involved in the public health system let me say it is extraordinarily bad at the moment. The system was gearing up for the long haul of catching up on 2 years of backlog and now we are back to where we were in January, in some ways worse.

Please wear a mask and take every precaution you can. Even if 10% of people who would catch COVID otherwise avoid it will make a difference. Evidence is emerging that every time you get COVID it does more harm to your body, especially if you are not vaccinated. COVID is not over, far from it.

The staff are exhausted, abuse and violence towards health workers is on the rise again. I'm not a clinical worker but I am exhausted myself, like so many of my colleagues I just want a proper holiday, which at the moment I can't get.

Stay safe everyone.

Agree and good post Sintiger - things aren’t good and not getting any better on the COVID front.

Stay safe everyone - wear a mask and do whatever you can to avoid catching COVID.

I’m going away next Monday to Townsville to defrost, then Port Adelaide away. I’ve had a head cold for a week that I can’t seem to shake off. Its not serious enough to keep me away from work. I have done 4 RATs in the past week. All negative (I know its not COVID because my chest is fine). Going for my 4th booster today.

My question is… what strategies have people put in place this year in the lead up to a holiday to avoid catching COVID when we’re in the middle of a big outbreak?

Masking up is the obvious one. I have been doing it at work over the past few days and will do every day this week. Minimising my socialising is another one… The problem is that I have commitments next weekend that I will not cancel (Dinner on Friday, Drinks on Saturday and Footy on Sunday).

Are there any other strategies? After cancelling so many holidays over the past 2 years, I’ll be pretty devastated if I have to cancel this one.

I was in the same situation as you a couple of weeks ago and that's pretty much all I did. I felt like I just had to ride my luck. The place I felt really vunerable was on the plane to be honest as the flight was chockers-but at least there was no turning back at that stage.

The one thing I did was book for three weeks away which gives me time to catch it, recover, and still have a bit of a holiday.

Good luck!

I concur. Hope you're on the mend Redders.
Ditto. At Redders' age this thing can be serious.

18-year-old neighbour has it for the third time. For the third time, he feels fine, just a little 'off'.

Had shot #4 on Monday. Bloody sore shoulder for a couple of days and felt a little 'off' myself, but it really hit me on Tuesday arvo when I felt dog-tired, lay down for a nap at 4.30pm and woke up at 10pm! Was fine by next morning though.

Geez is Redders older than me? as for my infection, pretty mild... cough/sore throat/sneezing (but with a spicy "edge" that's hard to describe), mild headache, tiredness. Monday off work, working from home since. Today is the first day I felt fine, just a bit of gunk still to clear out from the throat

Geez, lots of people getting it now. My daughter now has it, but, being a teacher, still has to do the parent teacher interviews today via Zoom.

Sounds like she is ok, thought she had the flu but, no, it's Covid.

At your much older age, I suspect you're having a nap of that length every day.

Thanks for the well wishes. Seem to be going ok. I think ? Who'd know. Sort of mild symptoms....but sort of not if that makes sense. After a week and half still don't have my sense of smell or taste back so that's a bit concerning. Few light headed moments and still a bit tired and sore around my ribs/lungs. First week I sneezed my absolute arse off. Like nothing else. Sore throat, tired-achy, chills. Not too bad, just took a while to get over.

They say days 5-10 are critical and you can re-lapse in that period so I'm at day 10 since symptom onset. What the long term affects are, I guess everyone just has to wait and see. One thing is for certain, its no ordinary virus. You can almost feel it trying to open every door in your body to harbour itself. Weird and different symptoms to the flu.

I'd try a beer tonight for the first time in nearly two weeks but I wouldn't be able to taste it.

You can't even remember my age! Take it easy, old fella. You can probably go to bingo but bowls this weekend might be a bridge too far.
