NICK Maxwell was appointed the new captain of AFL club Collingwood on Wednesday, replacing the retired Scott Burns.
Maxwell has played 95 games for the Magpies since making his senior debut in 2004.
Josh Fraser and Scott Pendlebury will be Collingwood's vice-captains in 2009, with Shane O'Bree, Dane Swan and Tarkyn Lockyer also in the leadership group.
After replacing long-serving leader Nathan Buckley, Burns only held the top job for one year before retiring at the end of the 2008 season.
