sorry im bored today and just want to start some convo's...
Have just read Mitch Mortons article in the Inside Footy mag Xmas edition but i'll come back to that...
Jake has had a fantastic season but i just sense he has the capacity to go one better and become a real humbug around the stoppages for us.
He's very quick in both mind and body, has excellent footy speed, has good disopsal and is one hell of an ankle biting terrier to shake off ya leg once he gets a hold. Going by his size at fan training night you immediately think TANK or British Bulldog. He struts around like an Arnie mini-me :hihi
His ball winning capacity is something i think he would need to improve but having played in the back half last season its hard to make that judgement on him. Maybe he's a natural ball winner anyway and just needs the opportunity to show it. I mean its not as if he couldnt find the ball down back, he was actually quite adept at it but its still a legit question i have on him in regards to his midfield ability.
Rewind back a few years and you'll recall how we were wanting to find a quick small defender to handle the opposition goalsneaks. Well i suppose you could put Kingy as the answer but now i want to revisit the article about Mitch Morton.
Terry told him he'd play across Half-Back which begs the question who is going to be be moved or removed from the back half to make way? Does that mean Tez has other plans in stall for Kingy or will both be used down back? I wonder what words Terry has said to Kingy in regards to next year?
Mitch says the position suits his style of play best as he has always loved the challenge of playing one on one footy.
Lets not forget that Mitch was a potential top ten pick in a superdraft year if not for the father son rule which had him going to West Coast. After a series of untimely injuries he was cut. He loves his new enviroment and seems very upbeat about his chances of achieving his ultimate goals in footy. His experience at WCE during a very succesful period has taught him valuable lessons about what it takes to achieve success.
Mitch just comes across as a very astute pick up for us.
but back to my point re: Kingy. Maybe he could well find a niche up the ground abit more, i certainly hope so. If he does and all going well with everyone else, by seasons end, his addition along with Cogs to our grunt squad, will be a vast improvement on this years. :clap anyhow it'd make way for the long queue waiting for an opportunity to jump in the back half, Connors, Casserly, JON. The competition for spots is looking good.
These tinkerings will of course be nutted out over the preseason in praccy matches and so forth but its a conversation starter for now anyhow.
I recall watching Foley train a few years ago near the boundary line at Punt Road. He looked almost obsessed. Its the same these days when i see Kingy train. He's like a man possessed! 110% in the zone. Thats the sort of dedication it takes to make something special happen. You can just see it in their eyes.
there now that killed abit of time for me :hihi
