Could we win a flag within four years?

Hawthorn rejecting Gary Ayres would have been the death knell for him as a coach.

This is one desperate attempt but we are not going to go for that.

I thought he was one of the best players in the competition when he played and he comes from that successful era.

Had a year under Blight at Geelong aswell. He has all the credentials and yet didnt get the best out of playing groups.

something to consider when we come to looking at other coaches who we feel have the same.

I read with interest that Garry Ayres was quoted that if he got appointed coach that he would guarentee a premiership in four years. Is he an idiot or can we turn it around that quickly?

Gary Ayres is a gun...should be considered to take over the head coaches job @ RNIB

He needs a job for next year.
Sounds like an attempt at schmoozing the Tiges heirarchy
by keeping his name in print so he's not the forgotten man.

But he is forgotten

I guess Brisbane were a basket case when Matthews took over; picking the right coach is crucial.
that is utter *smile*. mathews took over a team that was locked and loaded.the hard work had been done to call them a basket case is just plain wrong. the mathews myth at brisbane just grows.

their 2001 premiership team in position 17 of the 22 who played that day were at brisbane before mathews came. they finished 8 3 8 and then 16 on the back of a horror injury run. enter mathews. 3 6 1 1 1 2. their 2004 runner up side still had 15 players in it from before mathews time. he may have got the best out of most of those players but he had very little to do with the building of that team.

and just as a point of interest a similar thing almost happened at geelong but thomson hung on and went on to break a 44 yr drought.

Of course we could win a flag within four years. However, we need to pick the right coach, develop 4 or five new kids who can contribute in that time and our current crop need to progress to their maximum output.

:rofl :rofl :rofl :rofl

That is the biggest load of CRAP I've heard this year, win a flag in 4 years yeah right sure the Tigers have got the playing list now to do it with such wonder kids as Pettifer, McDud, King, Raines, Brown, Simmond's etc etc.

Fair Dinkum what planet was Ayres coming in from must be "Mars". ASDA should be testing him for drugs instead of Cuz.

why wait 4 years?

If we can trade in a few bigger bodies and an experienced forward we can make a challenge next year and definately the year after.

Did Gary actually guarantee a premiership or did he say he thinks he could help us win one? The coach of the best list in the comp couldn't guarantee a premiership but I hope any coach we get considers it a possibility. I'd be surprised if he was in the mix but I hope our process leaves no stone unturned in the search for the right person.

I bow to your superior knowledge and judgement.
