Apologies in advance for stirring up more unpleasant memories of recruiting gone horribly wrong; a bit like kicking a dog when its down.
But seeing the Tiges v Swans last week reminded me of an absolute shocker that most don't realise or remember.
I think it was back in 2004 that the Tiges had first pick in the pre-season draft.
In our wisdom (sob) we decided to pass up on picking any player from that draft, which just happened to include a promising defender from the Brisbane Lions in one Craig Bolton.
We looked at him but the word from our recruiting guru was that we had enough of his type of player, what with Gaspar, A.Kellaway and the like.
I suspect we weren't exactly loaded with cash to pay him which may have also influenced the decision, but of course if the club had recognised his potential I reckon the hat would have gone round pretty quickly.
History shows this All-Australian defender might have been a handy pick-up.
