Craig Cameron's track record at Melbourne

From 2003 his drafting has been pretty impressive, particularly with the budget that he has had to work with. Should be a good get for the club. I'd still like to see more emphasis be placed on player development at the club though.

Agree Tambo that only just started this season with Craig McCrae coming on board in that role & apparently doing a fine job guys like Meyer & JON would benefit greatly with improved resources in that area.

Camerons record is nothing to crow about this guy has recruited just as many duds if not more than we have.

Matt Blake, Luke Ottens, Jamie Shanahan, Chris Lamb, Luke Speers, Nick Carter, Paul Wheatley, Luke Molan and Brent Grgic were / are all duds.

What disturbs me most about Cameron is the fact that this guy thought our very own discard ROSS FUNCKE (another dud drafted cos he could run fast) was worth re drafting.

Thats frightening.

I vote for a tiger recruitment commitee involving Phantom, Redford, Evo and Claw for his WA analysis. ;D

Every recruiter has hits and misses and good kpp are hard to find, if we went back 2 years Melbourne had good kpp just they have gone backwards.

Rivers and Miller everyone wanted them 2 years ago.

I'd say it's got a fair bit to do with how much cash available to do the recruiting. It's got to be hard with a small budget, to see some of the boys a few times in person. You probably end up watching video highlights, and AIS draft camp stuff to make a decision.

We all know TV is OK, but being there yourself, you see what a player is doing when he isn't near the contest.

I don't think Cameron has the runs on the board to indicate that he is anything particularly special, to be honest he looks similar to us, which given Melbourne and Richmond's recruiting budget isn't entirely unexpected. So where is the x factor that would make us spend some money on the guy. Or is he just cheap and the really good recruiters stay at the clubs that are paying the real money and have real recruiting departments.

Why do we need to poach someone with an established record of mediocrity? Why can't we find a new recruiter? The next big thing?

Do we need to recruit somebody who recruits recruiters? Or someone who recruits recruiter-recruiters?

Have we got anybody in place who can identify and attract new talent at any level?

Totally agree would need to develop someone inhouse!!

Surely no one is suggesting that Cameron made all those decisions on his own. I am tipping that Daniher and the football department probably had a say in what they wanted. Thought Terry would get his mate over from the Dogs ;D
