Apparently in the last 3 seasons of shield cricket, Paine has averaged 16.87. And has not made a shield 100 since 2006. And has kept three times in the last two shield seasons.

Well we’d better win the test otherwise these selectors should resign.

Smarsh? Again? FFS, let it go.

Paine? Doesn’t keep for his state, poor batting average ....but yeah, sure, why not pluck him out of obscurity.

This smacks of 1980s style English team selection.

I would mind betting some of the selectors probably don't even know he has kept so little. Dunno why they just don't go back to Nevill.

Reading quotes like “he’s the best glove man in the country so he should be picked”.

But he isn’t a glove man any more! With that logic let’s pick Peter Siddle, he’s the best 3rd quick in the country. Doesn’t matter he’s 32, he’s injury prone, out of form.....

It's a staggering decision. Whilst Paine is undoubtedly a good wicket keeper he doesn't even keep for his shield side and wasn't even in the team for the last game until a late call up!!

I guess it shows how thin the ranks are for quality keepers at the moment. Still it is bewildering.

Happy enough to give Paine another go, and the Bancroft selection is a good one too... but S Marsh gets yet another chance...?

Renshaw out for marsh at the Gabba? in front of a full house of queenslanders? What are they trying to pull?

Keep an eye out on the wireless for a couple of blokes in tiger jumpers at The Gabba 8-

Renshaw is out for Bancroft, and fair enough on form. Renshaw will be back. Marsh comes in for Maxwell, which is a sick joke. Whatever happened to pick and stick with a bloke for a run? Three Tests back Maxwell made a flawless ton on a tough pitch in India. In that time he's made 5 runs fewer than Handscomb in Tests. (104, 2, 8, 45-batting beautifully when he got a sh!t call-, 23, 14, 38, 25* - far from horrible, and deserving of a chance to play a home series. Yet to get a home Test is Maxi.) He's made more Shield runs this year than Handscomb, who's position was never in doubt (and neither it should be). Hohns comes out and says Marsh has performed 'much better' than Maxwell in the early part of the season, yet Maxwell is averaging 40.0 in the Shield this year, Marsh 39.3. Marsh is a good player who gets a tough rap from fans, but he's 34, Maxwell was the incumbent with a higher ceiling, five years younger, much better fieldsman and a bowling option. Rocks in their heads.

Maxwell has had 14 Test innings, in seven different positions, from No.2 to No.8. His treatment is a disgrace.

Happy to see Paine get a shot. He's a better batsman than his record suggests, and a fine keeper.

Pertinent points, hard to fathom.

Yeah on a No-Show knocker, he is hard done by to be dumped for Marsh.

The differing selection policies on experienced players is baffling.

On Paine, he was never going to keep ahead of a returning Wade this year. The latter was the incumbent national keeper fighting for his spot so was always getting first digs.

He is the number one actual keeper in the country though - no doubt.

And now his batting lines up with all others in the country recently - Ave 36 in shield in 2017. It makes sense to bring him back.

He has a technique that can stand up to Broad/Anderson et al.

Leysy has always loved him as well. ;D

Marsh OMG ..... GAGF, they are the Clintons of Australian Cricket why dont they just be gone, gtfo and stay out.

The bloke is like a stubborn case of foot fungus ya just cant kill him off.

Bancroft yes but wouldve added him instead of Marsh

I wouldve given Renshaw his home Test at least and had Bancroft in at #3 in case of an early wicket.

Maxy shoulda got first crack as he can bowl and is a cracking fieldsman, plus he was incumbant.

Paine yes I'm ok with.

Paines leadership and mental toughness would be the main reason he has been picked.

They are not going to lose anything playing Paine instead of Wade or Nevill.

Obviously the selectors are looking forward to handing the keeping spot to a yougster such asCarey or Whiteman etc but they dont want to drop em into debut in an Ashes series.

Marsh Khawaja, Wade etc should be red lined then stamped for the future.

Head, Dean, Heazlett, Harris theres plenty of good young bats getting around.

Shaun Marsh FFS, the fact he is playing alone is enough to make me not be bothered watching and i always watch the Ashes.
