Joe root is easily the worst looking bat I’ve seen with an average over 50. Hopefully they just bowl full - he just never gets forward properly. He’s a huge candidate for lbw.

Still not watching?

It’s an ashes test and well poised - have to be a peanut to not want to watch because of issues with selection

As per usual Shaun Marsh did just enough to be retained and then went out softly and will fail next test. Maxwell will come in for Kwhaja and Marsh move up to no. 3 or they will sacrifice Maxwell and play him at No. 3 where he shouldn't be and Renshaw will be left out in the cold.

I know most people will think this is stupid. I also know he has had his chances and his body is fragile and can get out softly and rarely goes to make a big score but Shaun Marsh I think aesthetically is Australia best batsman to watch.
Smith, Handscombe are better bats but have unconventional techniques, Khawaja is a grinder, Warner is a flat track bully and Maxwell is different.
This based on viewing not contribution but like Mark Waugh, David Gower, I would rather watch Marsh At his best for an hour than anyone else. Just hope we get to see more of it

Thought he did ok, won me over a bit on the India tour, showed steel under pressure

he is a beautiful looking bat, and has been a very good at shield level for a long time.
but at test level he has been given chance after chance and either gets injured or dropped each time. at 34yo he doesnt deserve another chance to prove himself.

age shouldnt matter when picking the best 11, but if positions are 50/50 like Marsh over Maxwell surely was the spot should go to the guy with a future. (who can also bowl and is a great fielder, and who played in the last test we played and didnt deserve to be dropped.)

See Maxwell made 278.

I expect Nic Maddinson or Kurtis Patterson to be the next batting inclusion then....

Who's the dipsh!t analysing the video review? What a laugh. IMO, Ali was not out. Toes behind the line.

The "dipsh!t" got it right. Your opinion doesn't count, just like mine. On the line, nothing behind the line. Check the scorecard. Out!
Excellent work by Paine.

He sounded like one. ;D Show me this....show me that.... I saw toes on the line. Benefit of doubt goes to batsman.

There he is again....we could be here for days....

Another *smile* out. Where was the hot spot? A micrometre?

Clearly a nick on hot spot. And snicko confirmed it.

And on the line is out.

Pretty simple.

So are we going to see a 4th innings collapse? Theres a few batsmen who need to stand up.

Happy to be proven wrong but my understanding is there is nowhere in the rules that states benefit of the doubt goes to the batsman and a sa past bowler it bloody well shouldn't.

"in the spirit of the game"......but no let's keep playing like desperados looking for the cheap shot wickets.

The Broad one was interesting.
Before all the technology, that was not out every day of the week and no-one would have complained.
Starc didn't think he hit it. I reckon even Broad himself didn't.
But with the technology there was no doubt.

And Kevin Pietersen is an infinitely worse commentator than anyone doing the AFL these days.
