I look at the follow on a bit different, the Poms were destroyed in confidence an there’s a Snow flakes chance in hell that they wouldn’t have lost at least 3 or 4 last night, so the only way there team was going to build any confidence was having Anderson and Broad bowling in there dream conditions against our still suspect batting line up, the other thing is it’s not hot or tough conditions for the bowlers so 20 Odd overs between 4 , a night of sleep and then half a day at the most . Think there’s little doubt we will still win this test, however I think the foot on the throat follow on tactic should be used more like it use to be. Poms now have some confidence again that should have been demolished last night imho.

agree. Understand the reasons for generally not following on, but we should have last night. Would have provided 2 benefits, we avoid the tough conditions, and skittle 5 or 6 of them. But gameplans are hard to change mid-game, especially if you're on top.

7 for 100, Looks like a 340-ish lead. Should be enough.

Easily enough. Poms wont get 200.

No matter which way we spin it, that was another sh!thouse innings

harsh. Tough conditions, especially last night. We aren't the dominant side we used to be, just back in the pack now. But also, no side can handle tough conditions these days.

Agree snake, that we aren’t that dominant side anymore, haven’t been for a long time. 130 on just about any deck is poor at best. Im like a broken record with it but I just don’t see the gutsy pride in the baggy green that once was there, ffs send Towner over for the Perth test

I think the pride is there, just not as much ability. Thats a crazy idea re Towner, he can't miss any pre-season when back-to-back beckons 8-.

I want some more Steve Waugh toughness , wear a few, crack a couple of ribs, put away a shot away your not up too . Yes your right Towners to important to bigger issues then the Ashes

Now that was plumb. The real question was how the umpire did not give it.

How did they not review it? He was so far back in his crease and was hit low.

not watching but pitching outside line? The flaws in the DRS system were exposed last night, the one that was hitting was given not out, the one that wasn't hitting was given out. That's new fangled technology for ya!

He was around the wicket to a lefty. Doesn't matter if it pitches outside the line (outside off), just matters if it hits him in line.

Wasn't hitting and given out? Doubt it. DRS is not perfect but its better than relying on umpire alone.

I don't reckon it was, Warnie didn't either, but was umps call so not overturned. Made no diff to the end result, Smith just survived a few more balls, But I thought it was interesting. I understand all the whys and wherefores and reasons and technicalities, but the bottom line was: hitting, not out, not hitting, out.

Good thing Anderson an Broad are 35, we may struggle in 2019 in England. Our batsman once again prove we struggle on anything not flat.
