I didn't go to the Boxing Day Test for the first time in years & reckon I've watched 2 overs. I appreciate it's a 5 'Test' series but after a 3-0 result it really feels like the sting is out of the contest with these dead rubbers. A bit like if the Tigers were asked to play the Crows for 2 more quarters after they won the GF. They're meaningless.

Well heres a great opportunity for khawaja and Bancroft to make tons on a flat pitch in a meaningless test.
Well Bancroft missed the opportunity. He has a tarrible habit of playing at balls outside off stump far away from his body.

Smith, M.Marsh and Paine all chopped onto their stumps in the first innings, that wouldn't have happened too often.

Can add Bancroft to the list, while he didn't chop it on he got a thick inside edge. Can't remember it happening so many times in a test.

Yes, i've watched him a bit in shield games and that's my knock on him.

And Khawja misses the opportunity as well!

Thats gotta be the end for him. If you cant make runs on that road on day 4 of a dead rubber test then something is wrong.

This test has loss written all over it now.

Yep, too many weaknesses in the current side.
Need another number 3 , Starc back and I don't rate M Marsh, despite his big score last test.
Suggest M Stoinis, bowls faster and has a similar batting average.
Can't think of an alternate quick to Bird and can't think of another number 3.

Of the current batsmen 3 need to be replaced. Renshaw must be given every opportunity to come back in as opener, and likewise work with Handscomb and Maxwell to get them back and resolve their deficiencies.

Bancroft with his current technique will not pass the muster attest level. Head falls to off side plays every ball on off stump and just outside across the line, also continually plays across the front pad. Bit of a shame really as his shield numbers are good.

Bird is found wanting in game where there is no nip off the pitch or movement in the air but he’s not the first and wont be the last. I’d be playing a left handed just for the pure differences it offers, there’s a few floating around in the shield.

SS does it again. Centuries to this bloke are easy peasy now.

But he is no good compared to Virat Koli. Indian fans all over ESPN Facebook page. They are more clueless than Bummer fans.

Does Smiths dominance paper over the cracks of our lack of depth in the batting department ?

Unfortunately, yes.

Agree.

Strange end to the Test. The last hour/15 overs was the point at which they could have called it off. 10 minutes before then, the umps appeared to tell Smith that if he declared then and there, they could have gone off straight away. If I'd have been Joe Root, I'd have said "OK, we'll have a crack at the 100 in 15 overs thank you very much".

Another odd selection with Ashton Agar bought in for the 5th test ahead of the better performed Holland and O'Keefe.
