Originally played for Victoria.
Anyone know why he moved?
Nah, made his debut for WA, went to Vic for more opportunities, then moved back to WA as his Dad was sick (and has subsequently passed away).

Shield cricket resumes in the next week or so but seems redundant. What other major sports comp has a 6 week hiatus media season. Used to be said that our shield comp under pinned the test team. .. 4 day matches which county cricket eventually adopted.

My thoughts on Smith as a captain.

He loves Travis Head and Mitch Marsh. He plays favourites.
Last year he gave Head 10 overs in each ODI and Maxwell got none.
Yesterday, and just in case Travis fails later on with the bat - he brings him on before Zampa, the number 1 spinner in the team. Head gets belted so Smith has to bring Zampa on.
Meanwhile, the poms are recovering slowly and Smith has been using one of his other favourites - Marsh.
After about 46 (ish) overs he reluctantly and finally gives the ball to Stoinis.

I may be wrong but I think the problem with our ODI team starts and ends with Smith.
UNLIKE say Taylor, Smiths captaincy cannot prosper without him making a shed load of runs.

Perth stadium may have been a sell out but a lot of empty seats.
Moen Ali saved his best until his 30th match day for the summer. Perseverance pays off.

Anyone know why Tim Paine seems to be batting the way that he is at the moment. He used to open 20/20 games but his batting at the moment is predominantly just turning over the strike, seems to bat for a long time but not really score many runs.

I thought the setup of the Aussie team was much better today with a specialist hard hitter at 3. I hadn't actually realised how good Stoinis was until this series, I've seen him play a fair amount for the Stars but from what I'd seen didn't think he'd make this step but he looks great.

Australia also need much better spin options. Zampa is at best average at International stage. Anyone think Australia would be betting giving players like Swepson a chance?

By the way Curran bowled amazingly well in tonights game, the swing he got was deadly.

Where has Curran been. He was brilliant. Agree on Stoinis, looked a bit of a battler at lower level but has done really well for the Aust team.

They should be resting Warner from the T20's too. Or dropping him.

Surely Darcy Short gets a crack in the T20 series. Warner is massively out of form, I'd be giving Short and Finch the opening partnership.

Just looked at the spin differential in the ODI series.

England - 17 wickets in 111.4 overs. Economy 5.52. Average 36.2
Australia - 2 wickets in 51.0 overs. Economy 6.27 Average 162.5

IMO Head is an option like Joe Root, nothing more, Can bowl a few overs of spin but is definitely only a go to option if needed, but aim shouldn't be that they bowl many overs.
Zampa just doesn't have it, just like Docherty before. Australia need to make a statement on a spinner, either needs to be Lyon or bring a youngster through, whether that's Agar, Swepson or Bowe who seem like they all could be options.

8 hits

He's a test bat now.
As an ODI player he's not worth a pinch of stale nanny goats sh*t.

his stats suggest different. he has been good over the last few years. he had a good series in India and was great last summer here.

The one who should be looked at is Smith. his average over his last 14 innings (batting 3 or 4) is equal to Maxwell's (batting 6 or 7) and his strike rate over that time is 79 compared to 110.

Agree on Smith.

He is unlikely to retire himself from short form, but he is a liability these days - as batsman and skipper.

The IPL T20 money is too attractive to ignore, so he should chase that if he wants to top up his superannuation

Yeah but gee Smith trains hard (what a load of garbage)

I'd like to see Carey and Agar come into the ODI and T20 Aust sides. I like Paine and happy for him to stay in the test side, but Carey is a much, much better striker of the ball, and Agar with his batting makes him a lot better option than Zampa as the spin bowler.

Yeah, TP got us through the Ashes series but one of our ODI problems is too many passive batsmen. Your keeper needs to be a 7th batsman and a dynamic one at that.

Missus, son & grandson attended ODI at Optus & gave it the thumbs up. All have been to the The G & Ethihad many times & said it rated with those two for viewing. Lot of naysayers at the moment bagging it but once the teething problems are sorted out they will come onboard. Lets put it in this prospective that after Subi what are they bitching about.

Particularly being where Paine bats in the ODI squad. You can't have someone coming in that deep and just nurdles it around, they need to be scoring at a run a ball minimum at that level else they will be left behind. If Paine came in where Smith comes in then probably no issue with the way he bats. Having said that as I mentioned before, he used to open in T20's, why now does he score so slowly.
