Cricket

Gee there’s some good cricketers coming through the Under 19 World scene. India’s Gill is going to play a lot of senior cricket very soon.

Can’t stand wade but have to admire his ticker. Love the banter between bat and ball.

Ticker there from Wade. Lovely shots.

Loved the interaction between him and Johnson. Wish they could put on what was said between them. Be great listening.

Now for my team the Renegades tomorrow night.!

So if the Renegades win, they will get a home final?

yep, Hobart finished 4th so whoever wins tonight gets the home final.
If it's in Melbourne, be interesting to see how big the travelling support for Hobart is. Logistically the easiest place to get to for us. And pretty much everyone in Tasmania has family and friends living in Melbourne, so a pretty big expat Tasmanian population living there. I like to think of them as Tasmanian economic refugees ;).

Although begs the question, do we need to buy one ticket each, or two to accommodate our extra head? ;D

Can one of you cricket boffins please confirm whether when the ball hits the helmet behind the keeper that it goes dead. Bit of an incident tonight in junior cricket where a kid was run out after the ball hit the helmet - they were attempting to run a bye prior to realising the ball had hit the helmet.

I’m not a boffin but the question intrigued me. You would have been quicker googling than posting ;) but here it is

Yes it is dead.

28.3 Protective helmets belonging to the fielding side

28.3.1 Protective helmets, when not in use by fielders, may not be placed on the ground, above the surface except behind the wicket-keeper and in line with both sets of stumps.

28.3.2 If the ball while in play strikes a helmet, placed as described in 28.3.1

28.3.2.1 the ball shall become dead

and, subject to 28.3.3,

28.3.2.2 an award of 5 Penalty runs shall be made to the batting side;

28.3.2.3 any runs completed by the batsmen before the ball strikes the protective helmet shall be scored, together with the run in progress if the batsmen had already crossed at the instant of the ball striking the protective helmet.

28.3.3 If the ball while in play strikes a helmet, placed as described in 28.3.1, unless the circumstances of Law 23.3 (Leg byes not to be awarded), 25.7 (Restriction on the striker’s runner) or Law 34 (Hit the ball twice) apply, the umpire shall

- permit the batsmen’s runs as in 28.3.2.3 to be scored

- signal No ball or Wide ball to the scorers if applicable

- award 5 Penalty runs as in 28.3.2.2

- award any other Penalty runs applicable.

Amazing game. I thought the renegades had a few chances to take the game away from the Strikers (e.g. after each of those two dropped skied catches) but seemed to put the queue in the rack, thinking they'd done enough damage for the over or something.

Like using the 'slow it down' hands when your team has kicked the last 3 goals. Momentum is everything and dropped catches are a gift.

Thanks Roar. So the score should have been six - 5 plus the run they were completing (they had crossed).
