Cricket

It's all very interesting. I agree that the soft signal is nonsense. If the umpire, without influence from either team, isn't sure whether a catch is made or not, he should be able to refer it without the complicating issue of the soft signal.
Soft signal should only apply when it's a DRS review from either side.
But that raises another issue and that is why?
Why is an umpire allowed to send the matter of whether a catch is clean or not directly upstairs, but not the issue of, say, whether a ball pitched outside leg-stump or not.
As I understand it there is no provision for an umpire to send an LBW upstairs on his own volition - he is compelled to make a call and it goes upstairs only if the unsuccessful team reviews it.
I guess the answer to that is ... if they were allowed to do it they would get pressure from the teams every time.

Kind of contrary to what I said before I agree, however the ICC have now got a setup with the soft calls that complicate the whole matter. I'd have no issue with the umpire not giving a soft signal, the umpire refers upstairs and they then say its inconclusive so its not out.

The soft call is by definition, a guess. It is nonsense. It is written in the rules of cricket that doubt means not out.

If there is to be a soft call, it has to be not out, with a view to the replay proving the batsman was actually out.

Agreee with Midsy.

If in doubt all doubt must go in favour of the batsman.

Thats how its always been.

Plus there would only be about 60 overs a day bowled in test cricket.

at my first cricket game in 20 years. if I'm gonna continue to bag 20/20, well then I probably should see a game before I pass judgement, right?

I went in with low expectations and... well its 100 times worse than I thought it would be. The cringe level is off the charts. It's so quiet, they have to play pop music after every ball to keep everyone awake. How anyone can enjoy this tripe is a mystery to mankind. Enjoy your plastic manufactured poo. I'll stick to my traditional sports thanks.

Big Bash is better

Matthew Wade took the gloves off to have a trundle and took 3 wickets in the shield game against QLD :o

Taken $2.20 for the Kiwi's in the T20 against the Poms. They lost the toss and got sent in which is not surprising, i've never seen a wicket like it, not a blade of grass, looks more like a mud heap.

Well done.

Watching the T20 Aust v Kiwis, Short should buy a Lotto ticket. Aust chasing 244!!!!, 0/27 2 overs.

Wow these grounds in NZ are small. Put one into the upper tier and its 84m!! Would barely register as a 6 at the G!!

Ps. Ian Smuth must be the most biased commentator in world cricket, so hard to listen to his rubbish.

Aussies going nicely, this is setup for a big Maxi show.

Yes Smuth gets super excited when the Kiwi's hit a sux, hardly get a murmur out of him when the Aussies hit a sux.

Sounding ridiculously deflated at the minute. Must have popped his belly.

Ben Wheeler getting smacked, commentators going "there's no way out of this, got to bowl out", his mind is "hang on, I've got this". Bowls 2 over waist no balls in 3 balls and over and out.

Smuthy makes a goose of himself by carrying on like a pork chup when Lynn got caught on a free hit/no ball, then tells everyone to settle down :rofl

A star is being born for Victoria, the just turned 20 year old Will Pucovski is 136 not out. He has had big wraps on him for a while but has had a series of concussions. Watching on cricket.com, he looks to be good off the front and back foot, an exciting prospect.

James Sutherland claims Australian crickets window is the 6 months from October to March yet the season is done and dusted by the start of February (bar some shield games). So in effect the Australian cricket season is largely 3 months (Nov, December, January). If he doesn’t like the encroachment of AFL into February and March where’s the Australian cricket?

And for some reason there’s cricket being played in NZ that doesn’t even get FTA coverage.

its done and dusted cos Oct to March is also cricket season in NZ and SA. If we ever want to play them we have to tour there at this time of year.

The current games dont get FTA cos Fox pay more. I assume the SA tour will be the same. International played in Oz are protected and have to be FTA, games overseas are not.
