That makes it sound like it's not the first time they've done it at all. Just the first time they got caught.
Atherton with his dirt. Faf and his Minties. Been happing by all for some time. Bad look, more overt and got caught. Do their penance and see who survives.

Smith is one of the best batsmen going at the moment so accordingly wouldn’t it be bad for cricket if the best are unable to play or does that only apply to black bowlers?

They’re cheats. Respect is now 0.

Gotta sack anyone involved and ban them for life.

Now such an indictment on all Australian sports people. We always used to very good reputation held in esteem but over the last 15 years it has been deteriorating by a self entitled culture. Those before esrntveveything the hard but fair way. Now these ninkumpoops have slaughtered our country’s reputation for all time.

Anyone seen this? Footage from the 5th ashes test. Bancroft appears to be putting sugar in his pocket

Not sure if Bancroft is just the fall guy after all

Anyone would think smith committed murder
Yeah, as usual the blood thirsty mob want a sacrifice. Talk of 10 year or life bans is just ridiculous and OTT.

Interesting take, will Smith go to jail ? No , do murders generally go to jail ? Yep. In a sport that is really starting to struggle in the test format, incidents like this bring it closer to its knees, it doesn’t just lose credibility it loses sponsors and potential sponsors, no matter what penalty CA goes with Smith will still have his millions and life will go on for him, however as the Captain of Australia he has a massive responsibility to our country and he has failed us miserably . Some may say it’s a bit harsh but his a sporting cheat just the same as Lance Armstrong and look what his done to that sports reputation. A cheat is a cheat.

The under arm will never be forgotten and that was actually a legal ball, it was just simply not in the spirit of the game.

Smith suspended for next test by ICC

Australia captain banned for Joburg Test and Cameron Bancroft given three demerit points for role in ball tampering scandal

Australia captain Steve Smith has been handed a one-match suspension and fined 100 per cent of his match fee following his admission yesterday that he was party to a decision to attempt to change the condition of the ball in order to gain an unfair advantage during the third day’s play in the Cape Town Test against South Africa. ICC Chief Executive David Richardson laid the charge against Smith under to Article 2.2.1 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel which prohibits to ‘all types of conduct of a serious nature that is contrary to the spirit of the game’. Smith accepted the charge and the proposed sanction of two suspension points which equates to a ban for the next Test match and which will see four demerit points added to his record. "The decision made by the leadership group of the Australian team to act in this way is clearly contrary to the spirit of the game, risks causing significant damage to the integrity of the match, the players and the sport itself and is therefore ‘serious’ in nature. As captain, Steve Smith must take full responsibility for the actions of his players and it is appropriate that he be suspended," Richardson said. “The game needs to have a hard look at itself. In recent weeks we have seen incidents of ugly sledging, send-offs, dissent against umpires’ decisions, a walk-off, ball tampering and some ordinary off-field behaviour. “The ICC needs to do more to prevent poor behavior and better police the spirit of the game, defining more clearly what is expected of players and enforcing the regulations in a consistent fashion. In addition and most importantly Member countries need to show more accountability for their teams’ conduct. Winning is important but not at the expense of the spirit of the game which is intrinsic and precious to the sport of cricket. We have to raise the bar across all areas.” Cameron Bancroft has been fined 75 per cent of his match fee and handed three demerit points for breaching Level 2 of the ICC Code of Conduct during the third day’s play on Saturday. Bancroft admitted that he breached Article 2.2.9 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to “changing the condition of the ball in breach of clause 41.3.” and accepted the sanction proposed by Andy Pycroft of the Emirates Elite Panel of ICC Match Referees, and as such there was no need for a formal hearing. The incident that led to the charges being laid took place during South Africa’s innings on Saturday afternoon when Bancroft was seen on television holding a foreign object while rubbing the ball, before hiding the object in his pocket, then inside his trousers. As soon as the incident was shown on the giant screen, the player was questioned in the presence of his captain Steve Smith by the two on-field umpires, Richard Illingworth and Nigel Llong, who, along with third umpire Ian Gould and fourth umpire Allahudien Palekar, later charged Bancroft. The umpires inspected the ball at that time and elected not to replace the ball and award a 5-run penalty as they could not see any marks on the ball that suggested that its condition had been changed as a direct result of Bancroft’s actions. The umpires though agreed that Bancroft’s actions were likely to alter the condition of the ball and he was therefore charged under Article 2.2.9. Pycroft said: “To carry a foreign object on to the field of play with the intention of changing the condition of the ball to gain an unfair advantage over your opponent is against not only the Laws, but the Spirit of the game as well. “That said, I acknowledge that Cameron has accepted responsibility for his actions by pleading guilty to the charge and apologising publicly. As a young player starting out in international cricket, I hope the lessons learned from this episode will strongly influence the way he plays the game during the rest of his career.”

I can't see how anyone would want Smith and anyone else involved to represent Australia again.

This will certainly knock the cockiness out of the Australian players when it comes to sledging which can only be a good thing.
Watching Warner ranting and raving after the fall of a wicket has really annoyed me, and is not the example that he and the other players should be setting to our junior cricket players.

they cheated and should be banned but it makes me laugh know one says anything about the fact faf and philander have both done the same kind of *smile*

Afghanistan are well on the way to beating the West Indies in the final of ODI World Cup qualifying final, they need 28 from 73 balls. They are an emerging cricketing nation.
I watched a bit of the recent under 19 world cup in NZ, they have some good young cricketers in that side as well, good on them.

Edit

They did it in style hitting 3 sixes in row to win.

If they needed a patsy to tamper the ball then why the hell didn’t they use Khawaja?

He’s expendable....

Soft dismissal again from usman.

Australian cricket has been completely humiliated and embarrassed.

It stands for little more than an empty bucket of fried chicken with the used hand wipe.

How the players association can state that they have the games best interests at heart is a complete and utter misnomer when their members are hands out for the next pay check.

The next commercial TV deal had better be good enough to offset playing in empty stadiums.

Right, cricket has become the very definition of 'sellout'. Cricketers have no respect for the game or tradition, no pride. In a good football club, Warner would have had the *smile* beaten out of him half a dozen times and have a bit of humility as a result. Instead, it's just a cash grab, some pitiful kissing of the badge (soccer players do it too, then change club a month later) and an arrogance unmatched in world sport. The CA board and management should all be dismissed, get a new group in - people with a bit of character and pride. Then start again. I think most of the players will fall into line, and the ones that mentally are not capable (Warner) should just go buy a house in India and focus on their bank accounts.
