Its been reported Starc, Hazelwood and Lyon didn't know. I just hope the investigation gets to the bottom of it. And no Warner and Bancroft cannot play. I actually find it mind boggling that Bancroft wasn't suspended by the ICC.

Hard to believe the pace bowlers had no knowledge, since the whole thing was designed to assist them.

Yep, that's why you don't "shoot first and ask questions later".

It's a shameful day for Australian cricket. Smith was rightfully suspended and probably should lose the captaincy. The dearth of possible replacements is worrying.

I hope Faf and co aren't sanctimonious hypocrites.

Not just Faf. Michael Vaughan is one who was previously fined for ball tampering and he is all over it.

How many have transgressed the rules and never been caught?

What's the scheme of things when a deliberate decision is made by the leadership group to cheat is not a big crime? Essendon officials would love to know.

Its in no way comparable to the Essendon situation.

Some crazy over the top penalties being suggested here.

He and Uzzy!

Maybe they should just rest/suspend all the players that are on tour and send over a dads army of guys to play one test.

Ed Cowan
Cam White
George Bailey
Alex Doolan
Aaron Finch
Glenn Maxwell
Peter Nevill
Dan Christian
Fawad Ahmed
Trent Copeland
Andrew Fekete

Forgot Peter Siddle.

Article on the leadership group situation which implies Starc, Hazelwood and Lyon are angry at being implicated:

Clarke has said that he would Captain Australia if asked, hope they don't ask i'd rather they give the Captaincy to George Bailey.

Neither thanks. Lets look forward.

Giving it to Clarke would be such a backward step.

Ashamed to be just an Australian right now - let alone an Australian cricket fan.

If it were up to me, Smith, Warner and Bancroft would get life bans and Lehmann would be sacked.
In fact I wonder if Lehmann was the ring-leader in all this.
I know Smith and Warner aren't rocket-scientists but they had a lot more to lose (their careers) than Lehmann did.
I just can't believe they would be that stupid.

worse part of it all is S. Marsh cant be dropped as we wont have a replacement. after making a few runs against an attack that would struggle on the Sheffield Shield he has again failed when the pressure is on against a decent opposition.
his career should be over after the 4th test.

Yep Marsh and Khawaja the big winners here.

Paine to skipper the side for now.

Play stupid games - win stupid prizes

Cricket seems to have a bit of a problem with ball tampering. Certainly seems to have had a degree of cultural acceptance within the Australian team. It can be hard to prove without a concerted effort such as the South Africans invested in. The baseline penalty could do with a substantial increase.

Interesting couple of articles from Brett Geeves on this:

There is no question the Aussies are just the latest in a long line. Vaughan and his mob got MBEs for ball tampering.

Seen the footage of Chip leGrand going off at 3aws Tony Tardio after James Sutherland’s press conference yesterday?

Seems like a nice bloke old Chip.....

Vaughan is on twitter lauding it over Warner. He captained England when Trescothick's mints fell out of his pocket in front of the umpire !! Faf says his transgressions were ball shining ,not ball tampering. Give me a break Faf, you were shining the ball on your zipper ???

Atherton admitted that he was picked up soil and rubbed into one side on numerous occasions

The list goes on and on

I am sick of the lot of them, we have cheating australians and the rest are hypocrites as far as I am concerned

That’s crazy 23. They rubbed some dirt on a ball with sticky tape. The reaction is now just crazy. So many angel hypocrites in this world (not you specifically 23- enjoy your posting).

I feel sorry for Smith given the focus on him. He made a crazy decision but that shouldn’t define him.

Yes, punish him but this Lynch mob mentality should be saved for real villains.

Nope. They cheated and have opened all Australan cricket fans up to ridicule.

You build a reputation of being a tough, uncompromising nation of sportspeople, but one that can be trusted to play within the rules, and all of a sudden it's been torn down by the reckless action of 3 or 4 players who were finding this particular tour a bit tough.

I say put 'em in a room with AB and let him teach them the meaning of what it is to be an Australian cricketer.
