Cricket

Pleasing to hear that David Richardson the CEO of the International Cricket Council has come out and said that the ICC needs to do more to prevent poor behaviour and better police the spirit of the game.
I agree with him, Dave Warner's behaviour on field where he carries on like a rabid dog at the fall of a wicket is a bad look and sets a terrible example to junior cricketers.

Nope. They cheated and have opened all Australan cricket fans up to ridicule.

You build a reputation of being a tough, uncompromising nation of sportspeople, but one that can be trusted to play within the rules, and all of a sudden it's been torn down by the reckless action of 3 or 4 players who were finding this particular tour a bit tough.

I say put 'em in a room with AB and let him teach them the meaning of what it is to be an Australian cricketer.

More hyperbole. Opened fans up to ridicule? Is that important?

That’s crazy 23. They rubbed some dirt on a ball with sticky tape. The reaction is now just crazy. So many angel hypocrites in this world (not you specifically 23- enjoy your posting).

Yes there might be a lot of angel hypocrites, but Warner has been made to look like a hypocrite himself when he lectured Faf du Plessis’ about his ball tampering.

“I just know from an Australian cricket perspective, we hold our heads high and I’d be very disappointed if one of our team members did that,” Warner said.

Absolutely. I’ve espoused the virtues, values and philosophies of Australian cricket for years. I’ve even tried to play with them while in the UK. Now I go on about it and all I’ll get is “Yeah, but Aussies cheat.”

*smile* them - they’ve betrayed every value that Australian cricketers hold dear.

I feel very sad but not sorry for Smith. Such a gifted cricketer & one of our greatest ever but this I feel will virtually destroy him.

Hubris sometimes brings down some of the greatest. #Hird.

And so have some South Africans, some Poms, some Pakistanis, some West Indians, some Indians.....

I dunno, the outrage feels out of whack.

All teams do it. And you’d reckon this wasn’t the first time for us either.

For years? Hope you’ve been selective about it. Plenty of cheats and unsporting behaviour displayed by Aussie cricketers over the last couple of decades.

Do u cheat on your tax midsy? I hope you’re not claiming one deduction you shouldn’t.

What an over reaction.

In the UK, you don’t do tax returns, unless you’re a company director or similar. So no, I’m not claiming anything I shouldn’t be.

It’s often said the two most important positions in Australia are being Prime Minister and the Australian cricket Captain. For Smith to be complicit in cheating and to be removed “from office” shows the magnitude of what he’s done.

Down play it as much as you want, but for a lot of die hard cricket supporters, he has disgraced the country.

Its emerging that Warner may have been using the bandaging on his hand to cover sandpaper or something similar in the first couple of tests here and probably the Ashes.

I’ve often wondered about Warner been the main ball rubber and the *smile* on his hands .

Cheats in sport *smile* em off

IanG & CC I raised that issue about Warner earlier in this piece once this ball tampering happened !

The tapes on his hand , do we need to go back to the first test and have a look.

Starc's reverse swing and Australia thrashing SA in the first test have to be brought in question.

Rumour circulating that Lehman will step down. Good ruidance. Major architect to this sorry saga and the major problem how Australia have been playing ( not within the spirit of the game ) for many years.

It's not how I want to seen as or Australia seen as! Cheats.

Just because everyone else's doing doesn't mean we have too!

Something I'm trying to teach and explain to my son and all kids I come in contact with

Play the game fierce
Competitive
Give it your all.
Fair
Within the rules
Be humble in winning and in losing
Just because someone is doing something ( and it's not within the rules or values you hold ) you don't have too .

Look part of me being a parent and much older than Smith ( after calming down ) feel for him, his parents & his family.
This is a stigma that will remain with him for the rest of his not only cricketing life but his life in general.
This has damaged his brand and Australia's brand as a sports loving culture and country.

Yes it's not life or death.
Worse things in life. Understand all that.

But this is sport and the values we uphold, value and want to reach the next generation of cricketers and our kids.

This is bigger than ball tampering and wait to see what action CA take and what further action the ICC stamp this out and the behaviour that NOT ONLY Australian cricketers have conducted themselves but Other nations too!

We can learn a lot at how New Zealand conduct themselves via their captains and country !

You only also have to look at how our women's soccer & cricket team have conducted themselves compared to the men.
Could learn a thing or two the men!

Rant over and OUT.

Its very clear that you don't go from nothing to sandpaper in one foul swoop. Whatever Smith says this has been going on for a lot longer than "1 mistake".
