Jim Maxwell is reporting that Smith and Warner have been given 12 month suspensions. No word on Bancroft yet, he has to get something though.

So for Smiths international career that’s about 14 tests, 30 ODIs, 5 T20.

Overkill, the suspension is based on appeasing a baying public backlash and certainly not based on any previous examples of ball tampering.

Agreed. How many mistakes has Smith made in the past?

Regardless of length of suspensions , I don’t agree that they should be able to play Grade cricket while they are suspended, even though it would be great for grade cricket.

Did you disagree with Broad playing VFL when suspended from AFL?

They threw the book at him. I wonder if he will ever recover from this tbh.

I think they would face issues of restraint of trade if that was the case

I think that the ACB had to come down harder than other countries have & they have. Well done to them.
Yep I don’t by the *smile* weak precedents set by other countries, we were the best cricketing nation by far and I’d say a lot of that’s been because of setting high standards and making tough decisions.

A lot of issues in not just sport but so many things around the world would have been knocked on the head earlier if the people in charge had have had the balls to make the hard decisions. Australia needs to leed not follow.

No but I’m glad he is , in saying that it’s a whole different situation
It’s a different situation as to why they were suspended but it’s the same situation in being able to play at a lower level when suspended at a higher level.

I'm hearing they will or seeking lawyers..?

Going to play the " restraint of trade card I guess".

Well with their IPL teams dumping them costing them millions/ sponsors ( Warners case) you had a feeling they would go down that path.

Sutherland not calling them out for what they did or not saying the word when pushed there had to be a reason being as I mentioned earlier. ( post )

CA Statement:

Warner instigated it. However the interesting thing is it was sandpaper so Smith and Bancroft lied in their press conference which makes the sentence all the more reasonable.

I think also the fact that it was sandpaper raises questions as to whether Warner had done it before using his bandages as a cover as has been mooted.

Anyone seen the footage of the team walking through the airport?
Gee there's a journo with an English accent there who's got balls I'll give him that.
Asking Lehmann and Warner if they "cheated during the Ashes too" among other things.

Any link 23?

Beggars belief that Lehman survived.

Agree, hope they sue CA, even Warner whom I cannot stand.

Crazy penalty.
