If Hird and co showed the same remorse as Smith and Bancroft, he'd have received the same sympathy and could well be back coaching Essendon by now.

Correct

So we have some interesting outcomes for ball tampering;

Australia - massive suspensions public shame.
South Africa - promoted to captain
England - MBE

I wonder which country says we don’t condone cheating and which ones condone it despite their outcry.

Ball tampering for reverse swing is premeditated cheating. How many countries have been caught - england, sth africa, india and pakistan all come to mind. And every team has a dedicated ball manager - to shine and rough for reverse swing. And that player has an addiction to sugar or minties or dirt...
Its a similar scenario to armstrong and cycling - the practice was endemic in the sport and penalties were insignificant.
But then the succesful arrogant loudmouth got caught and the world bayed for blood and the administrators delivered.

Its not that the 1yr penalties for smith and warner are excessive but that the other penalties were manifestly inadequate. And everyone hushed up.

So now the right level has been set. And let the next test cricketer to be caught receive twice the time.

Plus i would change when a new ball is available. We want a faster game - quick runs and more wickets. So get the new ball at 60 overs.
No incentive to ball tamper to get reverse swing

This is spot on - said the same thing to my mate yesterday. Once you slightly condone ethics violations in any organization, it's a slippery path that's going to end in a big 'oh *smile*' such as we have seen here. These things build up over years of turning a blind eye / saying nothing.

Can i recall the Poms ball tampering using heavy sugar filled saliva derived from lollies to affect the ball during their campaign where they beat us in 05

Yes, when he was captain, hence why he is a hypocrite.

Been planing and to go the test in Johannesburg I been planing this trip for a year and have been excited to the see the Aussies in action ( I realy miss seeing the Aussie Cricket and the mighty Tigers living in Botswana ). I was In Gaborne on Tuesday and its only a 6 hours drive there , but my heart wasnt in it after all this . So drove the 9 hour trip the other way back home to Nata .
Was watching SABC news this morning Faf was on suggesting that The Aussies Ball tampered in alll the tests in the current series and he belived they had also done this during the Ashes as well .. Gee Faf S@#ts me .. he ball tampered twice and was promoted to SA captain .
I was hoping we would put up a good showing this test but not looking like it atm .
Thank goodness the IPL is coming up , gives CA some time to get its house in order and give time for the Aussie Cricket team to take a break and move foward . Feel for Smith , his major crime is that he could not stand up to Warner. As for Warner , I hope he never plays for Australia again .

A lot of people quite rightly piling unto Sutherland now, who has perfected the ability to distance himself from any crisis. Pat Howard too gone missing.

Yep. At least SS, Bancroft and Boof have spoken out publicly, meanwhile Warnker wants that special red carpet moment to come out and speak.

I don't know why Warner has to be turned into the bad guy. The Age headline has labelled him as the team's pit bull.

A quirk of humanity.

Both of these clowns need to go.

Just heard part of his presser. Sounded sincere when he read from a prepared speech. Then said he would answer questions. The first question asked, he evaded. When the reporter asked again, a minder said he answered. The reporter said he hadn't and attempted to ask again then was told only one question per reporter (paraphrasing here).

Yeah, very guarded answers just repeating himself "i accapt MY PART in it and im sorry".
Reckon theyll all appeal tbh as none of them have said they wont.

Was reminiscent of the scene in F.I.S.T where no matter what question the prosecutor asked the answer was I refuse to answer that question on the grounds that I may incriminate myself.

Evidently Bancroft is going to appeal, not his guilt but the severity of the penalty.

I suspect Warner will do the same but there is speculation that he has been advised that to say too much will jeopardise his future contract .....with 60 minutes for a tell all interview
