No disrespect to the guy but Sayers showing there's a big gap between Shield & Test cricket, barely breaking 120km/hr & can't bat. Better off with Lyon opening the bowling.....

What are people's thoughts on Warners press conference?

I thought it was /looked/spoke insecure.

Maybe Im judging him harshly as I dislike him, feel he was the instigater in all this and his personality.

Think he will never play for Australia again.

Thoughts?

I thought it was calculated in avoiding any real questions.

I just love the irony/hypocrisy of the media via their relentless witch hunt compared to how the media treated the EFC drug scandal & the individuals involved. Pathetic

Anyone read about the SA fans wearing Canice t shirts and Sonny Boy Williams masks? Seems like a very well orchestrated get under Warners skin campaign by fans.
I don’t condone what Warner did BUT the treatment of his wife at the ground is nothing short of bullying. My question is whether these tough guys will wear Candice Falzon masks when SBW comes to town? Of course not because a woman is a target, she deserves to be ridiculed and bullied because she is female and SBW is a red blooded male.

No matter what Warner did his wife did not deserve the ridicule and treatment she received and shame on SA for not condemning it, in fact they enabled it.

He came back to hotel at night to find his wife in tears at the treatment she received, no wonder he was angry. No wonder when DeKock made a comment about his wife he lost it.

Don’t take this is any way as defence of cheating, nothing mitigates those actions, but what happened to his wife and what those low lifes did in the crowd is just straight out bullying and also cannot be defended.

We were having a discussion about this this morning. I believe it was absolutely shameful. Wasn't there some SA officials caught out wearing those masks as well? I think they may have been censured for those actions.
For the life of me I don't get all the sledging caper. I think it's just downright imbecilic. Win or lose on your merits.
The "mental disintegration" under Steve Waugh has reached pathetic levels.
Just on Warner, when de Kok mentioned Warners wife, it was in retaliation of Warner making comments about De Koks sister. I'm not condoning either of their actions. Both very poor. But action leads to reaction.

Similarly to when McGarthh made comment to Sarwan in the WI series. "What does Lara's **** taste like" Sarwan retorted "ask your wife". McGraths wife was undergoing Cancer treatment at the time. Hence the infamous footage of McGrath getting irate and pointing his finger at Sarwan and gesticulating angrily.
The easiest way to cut it all out would be for the umpires to add 5 runs to the batting teams or debit 5 runs from the fielding team total for each unsavoury incident. Depending on the culprit. That would soon sort them out.

I prefer the humorous anecdotes. Ie *paraphrasing* when Arjuna Ranatunha wouldn't run easy singles because of his "girth" and "fitness level" I think it was Ian Healy who suggested they put a sandwich half way down the pitch, that would tempt him out of his crease.

There is no doubt Warner is not an innocent party but as you say actions by one don’t mean we have to condone actions by others. If he made comments about de Kocks sister then that is not on but that in no way justifies what he said back nor the actions of the crowd
The officials weren’t wearing masks but they had photos with morons who were wearing them.
Probably some in an Australian crowd would do the same so we are no clean skins but why is it ok for SA crowds to be bullies and morons just because Australian crowds sometimes are?
His wife was not on the cricket field nor did she make any of the comments, she is an innocent party and just collateral damage.

My favourite was Miandad who (in frustration) called Merv Hughes a fat bus conductor.
Next ball Merv got him out and ran past Miandad saying "tickets please".

Not 100% sure but I believe the SA focus on Warner's wife came after Warner tried to get physical with De Kok after the first test. It was because of Warner's over reaction that the Saffers saw a massive button to push against the designated button pusher of the Aussie team.

Over the top and uncalled for. Yeah. But Australia/Warner started it, Saffers took it to a new level.

In 100% agreement. Inevitable once an opponent decides to stand up to the sledging. The aggressors came unstuck.

I think thats a reflection of how sycophantic the footy media is with the AFL. Cricket media is completely different.

I think Healy also told Ranatunga that he only got a runner for being injured, not because he was a fat, unfit *smile*.

Didn't Ranatunga say to McGrath, after McGrath had a crack at his weight that every time he shagged his wife he ate a cookie.

Nah, it was a Zimbabwean player called Eddo Brandes.

My favorite sledge is an exchange between Rod Marsh and Ian Botham.
(As Botham walks to the middle)
Marsh: How’s the wife and my kids?
Botham: the wife’s fine, the kids are *smile*.

Off on a tangent but I have always wondered why cricketers have wives and family on tour. They keep talking about cricket being their job but I don't know many jobs where spouses accompany the worker overseas as a matter of course. Politicians excepted.
