Thanks for posting.
Just fascinating reading. If I had the time I'd love to attempt a detailed critique but just pulled out some of the more interesting comments from CA and Sutherland:
- "The significance of it is more to do with the way of the world and the way people are consuming media today than anything else," Sutherland told ESPNcricinfo on his final day in the job." (So it's the public's fault they can no longer access it on F2A)
- " ... but through other means we're continuing to try to broaden the access to the game ..." (We're so lucky it's being 'broadened' !)
- "It'll certainly be a change, but by and large it'll be a huge positive for the game, because of the way Fox will provide huge bandwidth and promotion of cricket that we haven't been able to enjoy previously to that same extent, and the way that AFL and NRL have enjoyed for a number of years now." (TV game like AFL ...!!)
- "The deal struck in April essentially doubled the amount of money being paid by broadcasters ... " (This has little to do with the deal - see point 2!!)
- "So it wasn't a conscious decision to say this is where we're going, it was just how it turned out." (Sure. I have no doubt; $$$ were not THE priority; you wanted to preserve the historic connection between the nation's greatest and iconic sporting team with F2A TV, but it just didn't fall that way!!!)
We were so lucky to have the CA Board and Sutherland leading to provide such a legacy, and leave the game in such a brilliant state. Future secured in Rupert's grubby little mitts.
