Was never much of a Clarke fan, but agree that Whateley blaming him for the sandpaper thing is preposterous. Stand down, Gerard.

Agree. Clarke didn't change anything to do with the Aust attitude/culture, it was established well before him. Clarke overstepped with comments about Gerard not playing, but his other points were well-founded.

Whateley loves the sound of his own voice too much. I cannot listen to his show.

He didn't blame him directly, and it was in response to Clarke's comments that were stupid given the current climate. Clarke's comments just showed why people were leery of him being named captain in the first place.

"Implied strongly" that Clarke was responsible for something that happened more than two years after he last captained the team. The culture of sledging goes way back, and has nothing to do with what transpired in South Africa. That was down to a player going rogue, and the captain lacking control of his team. And on climate... the "climate denier" label dished out by Whateley was gratuitously political. *smile* off Gerard.

Clarke was also correct in saying that nice guys run last at that level of sport. The PC malaise that has overtaken Cricket Australia will ensure we continue to struggle. Just play the game hard and fair, and respect will return of its own accord.

Watching the special on Foxtel about the cricket between India and Australia and seeing/hearing what went on between BOTH teams in India in '86. If that series was played today.....

And of course Harbajhan Singh 10 years ago.

Wow.

Nothing like letting the opposition know that we are now going to be soft *smile* on the field because they've been Soccermummed by the pious preachers in the media.

Indians will come out and sledge hard and play unsocially as they have for the past 15 or so years, and try and claim an edge over the pussified Aussies who wont give it back because they want to be seen as good polite boys.

This *smile* will be the ongoing talking point from the media all summer.

Throw in the Marshes and Khawaja and I' m out for another summer.

Wake me when the AFL x starts :P

Wow.

A few things.

Mike coward may very well be more pompous than whateley - I didn’t think it was possible.

One of the Indian guys showed any remorse or guilt over the behaviour of Singh and the BCCI after monkeygate. No condemnation of Singh’s actions more smug pride in the power of their board.

Its not just the media, you read almost any public comments about the team and it is clearly our most disliked sports team. Plus treating our opponents with more respect does not mean we can't play the game hard. Richmond manages to do it.

Chris Gayle scores 300 in a day.

Poetic justice after being falsely #metoo'ed out of the country.

Full team: Australia XI for the first Test: Marcus Harris, Aaron Finch, Usman Khawaja, Shaun Marsh, Peter Handscomb, Travis Head, Tim Paine (c), Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, Nathan Lyon, Josh Hazlewood

A conspicuous - and welcome - absence.

Good, why you’d want him as the 5th bowler is beyond me anyway.

Amazing considering he was Vice Captain.

Minor exposure with 4 bowlers, but all he would give you is an extra 30 mins rest for someone. Maxwell blew it big time in his last shield match.

I think I heard correctly on the radio today that the reason the Adelaide test is not a day nighter is because India said so.

The opposing team have to agree to the schedule just like with the use of the 3rd umpire.
