Smith and Maxwell played expansive, profligate shots. They needed to work as hard as any other game to press home the advantage.

It was a mental application thing and one area for improvement that is totally fixable.

It's not Smith's game. We don't need Smith/Uzi/Marsh at 3/4/5.

We simply do not have enough power hitters - the Shaun Marsh selection was and is ridiculous.

Definitely unbalanced us, having Khawaja and Marsh come in when they did. They ticked it over OK but it's not their natural game. I don't think they can be counted on to do a job down the order against the best attacks.

When Smith came in the score was 1/146 off 22 overs, the shot he played would suggest that he was going to take the bowling on with Warner to bat through. I didn't mind the strategy, but Maxwell is the one who should have come in at 3. Smith just threw his wicket away, and it's not his go to do that.

Smith played an ordinary shot the ball before. Verging on showing off. Yeah, Maxwell is the one if they want to put the foot on the throat.

In the end we lost 10/161 in 27 overs - even worse than it sounds given Pakistan's missed chances and generally dismal fielding.

Khawaja last batted at #3 when we lost an early wicket against the Windies. It's almost like he's there as insurance against a bad start. Unfortunately the batting isn't so versatile that they can be slotted in to any position.

Sri Lanka and Bangladesh coming up, chance to find some rhythm.

The weather in this World Cup is getting ridiculous.
Nobody's fault but you would think the ICC just can't afford this kind of stuff at its showpiece event.
Wonder if it will impact England's chances of staging it in future.

It should. More of a shock when there is actually a game on.

Cricket commentator Michael Holding reveals ICC TV censorship

West Indies great and cricket commentary icon Michael Holding has revealed an attempt from ICC officials to shut him up after critical comments made during Australia’s win over the West Indies last week.

Holding slammed the umpires in Australia’s tense World Cup clash against the Windies, branding them “atrocious” and “weak” after several controversial calls went Australia’s way.

The former fast-bowler also criticised the behaviour of some Aussie stars in the field after they were accused of intimidating umpires with over-the-top appeals for wickets.

In leaked emails obtained by The Times of India, Holding has gone rogue and is refusing to curb his forthright views, despite being cautioned by his TV employer, which is the official ICC World Cup host broadcaster used by global TV networks, including Channel 9.

Did seem as though he was on the angry pills - uncharacteristic and a little more critical than was warranted. On the other hand the umpiring did seem to go against the Windies, and it was good to hear edgy opinions.

“We had an incident in the (WI vs Aus) match where we highlighted on air during an analysis segment (which Holding denies) that a no-ball should have been called,” Bevan wrote.

“This is exactly the kind of thing we need to avoid putting on air."

Now that is absolute *smile*. They shouldn't be hiding a missed no-ball as bad as this from viewers.

That is unbelievable since when do the media do the bidding of the organisation running the tournament. The media has really moved away from what its role in society is in general.

That’s a massive overstep from Starc.

Oddly Cummins got called a no ball on the opening delivery of the Pakistan innings when it wasn’t a no ball!

Cracking innings from Finch, seems to save his best cricket for playing in England.

Did they really send in Marsh instead of Carey with 6 and a half overs left.

Did I detect an element of anti-Australian bias in Brendon McCullum's commentary?
He suggested that a few of our wickets against Sri Lanka were "fortunate".
Mark Nicholas responded that they may have been fortunate but you make your own good fortune with the effort you put in.
Nicholas was effectively saying "you're full of it, Brendon".

It’s funny you say this, the commentators were talking about the Australia v Pakistan game and McCullum was saying that Pakistan should’ve won the game! And proceeded to give reasons why eg they fought back in our last 10 batting overs and that they (Pakistan) batted well but just kept losing wickets at crucial times.

I thought that was odd to say.
