I really don't get their fascination with Abbott. As you say he's a decent state level cricketer, but has never taken his chances at a higher level, yet they keep picking him as a back up.I reckon the non-selection of Handscomb is a strong indicator we'll at least start the series with the same top 6 as Sydney.
It's an eye to the future, Sin. Connolly is a very similar player with similar inexpereince to Jacob Bethel, who was picked to bat at 3 in England's Test team with just a few first-class matches and an average of 26. He looks the part. Anyway, as I said above I think Connolly and Inglis are both reserves on this tour.
Agree with you on Abbott. One of those guys who are good at state level - although his first-class bowling average of 30 is nothing special - but not quite good enough at the top level. He could be an option with his batting ability if we want to play three spinners and two quicks.
