Cricket

I reckon the non-selection of Handscomb is a strong indicator we'll at least start the series with the same top 6 as Sydney.

It's an eye to the future, Sin. Connolly is a very similar player with similar inexpereince to Jacob Bethel, who was picked to bat at 3 in England's Test team with just a few first-class matches and an average of 26. He looks the part. Anyway, as I said above I think Connolly and Inglis are both reserves on this tour.

Agree with you on Abbott. One of those guys who are good at state level - although his first-class bowling average of 30 is nothing special - but not quite good enough at the top level. He could be an option with his batting ability if we want to play three spinners and two quicks.
I really don't get their fascination with Abbott. As you say he's a decent state level cricketer, but has never taken his chances at a higher level, yet they keep picking him as a back up.

We pick a guy who has 4 first class matches as a reserve batsman as well as Inglis who made runs early in the season but has never set the world on fire as a batter, averages 36.

Poor selection imo, we needed to take someone who has shown they play spin well given how brittle our batting is.

Also don’t understand the fascination with Abbott as a potential test bowler. Decent white ball bowler and that’s it.

Gotta remember it's only a two test series Sin.

We've obviously decided we'll go in with the same top 6 - fair enough.

That means whoever is picked as the spare batsman, is unlikely to play - unless one of the 6 gets injured or they drop someone after one test - again unlikely.

So making the decision with the above factors - you gotta take the youngster to get him exposed to the squad, watch on first hand from some greats etc.

He'll get more from it than anyone else could.

Great learning experience for Cooper.

On most occasions a reserve keeper is part of a touring squad.

"Inglis will again fill the role of back-up 'keeper behind incumbent gloveman Alex Carey."

Don’t need a reserve keeper for a 2 test series and rarely do we take one.
Should have taken Handscomb who is a proven player of spin and can keep wickets as well. We have the 6 batters from the last test, a keeper, a youngster who hasn’t made a 1st class century and the guy who failed in the first 3 tests of the summer. If that’s the best we can do then so be it.

I'd rather give Inglis his first chance, than Handscomb who would be on his 3 or 4th chance.

Yeah don’t agree. Inglis hasn’t even had any substantial white ball form for a year. He made runs early in the shield season and that’s about it.

Anyway we shall see. To me it just shows the dearth of batting talent we have in this country.

And Abbott? Give me a break, there are 5-6 quicks I would pick before him.

Richardson, Bartlett, O’Neill, Paris, Bell and Neser to name a few. He meant to be an allrounder and has a batting average of 24.

Yeah, it looks like they have picked the best 6 bats- the top 6 from Sydney then McSweeney as the back up. If they fail in the 1st test McS might come in, and Head can move to open if needed.
Connelly and Inglis are just there for the free holiday.
Abbott as the back up pace bowler is a worry, but maybe he has the style and experience to be ok in Sri Lanka. Hopefully he won't be needed.

Good squad, not fully how I,d have gone but I'm heartened to see the younger players included.

Feel for Handscombe, gets called to Sydney and talk he will be in the squad. Must be an emotional jolt. But I think its a better long term strategy.

With only 2 tests I doubt they make changes mid series aka between t1 and t2.
So the backup squad are there for experience.

On opening with Head, the same argument applies to Konstas - the hard ball suits his play.
Why not back Konstas in?

What they can do is bring Head up to first drop. It keeps the aggressive approach.

Sixers batsman just killed a seagull at the G. TV shows both batsmen talking. Is there a new law we don't know now where the TV media don't replay or show accidents on field? I heard someone on SEN this morning ask/say this. That Big Bash headclash wasn't shown again after it happened and same with that Spurs player collapsing in penalty box against Liverpool.

The seagull obviously didn't see the ball coming, otherwise it would've tried to Duckett.

I hope the seagull is just stunned.

My girl Georgia Voll continues to dominate ladies cricket since making the Australian side. A Lot of blokes would like to be able to hit it as well as she does.

I hope she gets selected in the upcoming ladies Ashes, she's going to be a star.

You know some people might get unsettled n upset if gory, violent physical accidents n situations are shown ad nauseam without first warning the viewer of the potentially distressing content. One look as the accidental contact occurs n that's all that's permitted before the complaints start rolling in.

IMG_1098.jpegStumbled on this on social media, not a bad side .

Not sure Davey boy gets a gig if we are playing overseas, the Mitch Johnson position I’d imagine gets the most questions , however outside of Warne he’s as good of a game changer at his best as anyone .

Obviously Garry the leads the singing celebration 😉 Simmo for me would get the 12th man gig , equall best fielder I’ve seen .

Just realised Steve Waugh is not there , of you go back to Shield cricket Clarke.
