Not that I am a Clarke lover, i'm far from it. But what was he meant to do? What were we, 2 - 20? Did you want him to play like Cam White did in the last 10 overs from the start of the innings? 110 off 120 balls or so isnt too bad when your team makes close to 300.

111 off 139 to be exact snaps. If he'd done 110 off 120 we would have won.

Agree he did the right thing initially but he often has trouble pushing the pace when required. As for him playing 20/20....

They took 84 off the last 5 overs I think, with White doing most of the damage. White got 64 off 21 & Clark 20 off 9

ok, thats 20 balls worse, but still, I think the bowling was worse than the batting. Hastings was good on debut.

As much as I rate Paine as a fine technician with bat and gloves, he has no business opening the batting in limited-overs cricket. Clarke should ante up and do it himself. He's done it before with success and even playing his normal game will outpace anything Paine is capable of.

Aussie cricket is deeply confused at the moment.

yep very confused.......if they want to fix matches and make money with the bookies. Someone should tell them it will only work if they look like they could win. Not much point throwing a match if you were never going to win anyway

And the selectors are doing nothing about it

Harsh there spook.

Paine has opened all his career in the limited over forms of the game & did in shield cricket when he was playing as just a batsman when he first started.

His century off 118 balls in last years one-day final against Victoria showcased his talents as has his form averaging over 30 in that role for Aus. Will only improve as he gets more experience in the role at that level. Once he does you will see him accelerate his scoring with the best in the world. He has every shot in the book to do it.

& surely we are in a position where we should be pushing our young players forward for greater roles.

They have hit rock bottom the Kiwis.

We are on the downward spiral also inregard tyo interest and participation in the game.

I reckon cricket is on the slide in Australia, England and NZ, the Windies already stuffed.

Cricket will end up being a sub continent game eventually, theyve ruined the game with all their BS and 20 /20 and limited over tournaments imo and cricket is fast becomng irrelevant which is somthing id never thought id percieve.

I lost all interest in cricket after the Symmonds / Singh affair in Oz when it was plain to see that no one had the balls to stand up to the BCCI. Our players looked like fools. Our administration looked spineless. The governing body looked compromised.

That's was enough for me to turn my back on the game. Stopped playing in the social league here. Refused to discuss the game with our outsourced staff here. Unsubscribed from the cricket channel.

Shame really, it was always a good excuse to spend a weekend out in the sun drinking beer.

Cricket in Australia would be lots better if we had decent selectors... who played the best players in the country rather than hanging on to players way past there use by date

Agreed Balooga i dont rate the BCCI and what theyve done to the game either, i cant stand what theyve been allowed to do to the game. Just like everything the Indians get charge of its doomked to become half baked half assed a failure or irrelevant see recent Comm Games. What a epic joke that was.
The ICC are guilty in allowing this *smile* to happen.
The sub contininental countries *smile* me because like every other non white nation in the world these days in they all play the racist card when things dont go their way even if they are playing outside the rules the rules now get changed for them.

Its all BS and i cant be assed with it.
