I want Punter to drop down the order in the same way that Waugh and Border did.
Batting at 6 he'd prolong his career and give us much needed ticker in the middle order.
I'd insist Clarke bats at 3 if he wants the Captaincy after Ponting.
IMO Our batting order should start to look something like this:
1 Watson
2 Marsh / Hughes
3 Clarke
4 Ferguson
5 Kwahja
6 Ponting
7 Haddin / Paine
8 the Spinner
9 and three the quicks

Thats true to an extent, but there's also reasons for it. It happens the world over not just here.

3) Conditions - i.e Overhead skies are condusive to swing.

what kind of bowling is suited when the sky is falling? (kinda like now...)

the other thing with our bats getting chances that the bowlers dont get is all our batsmen, except North, have been successful for long periods. they have, to a degree, earnt some credits. the bowlers havent.

I reckon you are right Streak. If you go back to Hughes and Chappell swapping over the captaincy all the time, it was a complete disaster, and when Chappell played under Hughes in his last series (even though the Aussies won) it was difficult for Kim having him still in the side. Hasn't happened since. we have been pretty fortunate with the longevity of our captains since then, and the fact that they were able to each retire while the side was still playing good cricket.

NI reckon once ponting is no longer captain, he will no longer be in the side.

I'm pretty sure it is now a policy of the ACB Phil.

Did you see the 3rd final from the 88/89 series last night? Aussies struggling until the rain came and reduced the game to 38 overs. They came out blazing and smashed around 130 in the last 13 overs from the likes of Ambrose, Marshall and Walsh. One of the great one-day knocks by Dean Jones, shades of Stan MCabe. Then after a couple of early wickets, Viv took our bowlers apart. What a destructor. The rain came again and WI's target was reduced to 108 from 18 overs, which they got with about four overs to spare. Duckworth-Lewis would have set them a far sterner target. That was the closest we got to beating them back then.

I watched that, Deano & Boony were my childhood heros. Boy it was exciting when Deano was on song.

23 for White vs poms unfortunetly. Hope D.Hussey can have a big one.

7. haddin
8. smith
9. harris
10. siddle
11. bollinger/mackay

while klinger hasn't hit huge amounts of runs this year, he has dominated the previous 2 years and should be seriously considered... especially now that he's tha SA skipper and we're struggling for leadership. could also consider dropping one of the batsmen, bat haddin at 6, smith at 7 and play both bollinger and mackay. kawaja and ferguson aren't ready for mine. white should be a certainty and i can't believe he's not being talked about.

Ponting should remain skipper but they should look for a new heir apparent as Clarke is not the answer.

totally agree, which is why white must be picked.

Who the hell is Beer?

Left arm spinner for WA....played a fair bit of district cricket in Melbourne for St.Kilda, but Jon Holland was preferred so he shifted to WA.

Are these the actual changes MB?

Yep,only weather will save us.

Much rather Marsh in the team instead of Hughes who cant buy a run.

Smith will definately play at 6 which is the only spot for him as his spin is far too unreliable for Ponting to expect 20+ overs a day which he would need if played as a bowler.

One of Hilf, Siddle & Beer too miss depending on pitch condition. Who the hell is this Beer anyway. Thought Doherty cam from a long way back.

Johnson will play if he's named in the 12. Hope he's sorted his action out.

Smith will bat 7, Haddin will bat at 6. Seems as though he's definitely been selected as a batsman who can bowl a bit, rather than a bowler, judging by Hilditch's comments.

Beer is a real smokey, was expecting Hauritz to be back in. The batting is now much more aggressive, which could go either of two ways - much more competitive, or much worse :help

Beer just another lamb to the slaughter. Agree with Hughes as well Navy. As for Johnson, I can't see how 2 weeks ago he wasn't seen to be bowling well enough to get into the side and now he is, despite not having bowled a ball in a game since then. I can't see how he can possibly have sorted out his issues in such a short time.

As someone said the other day, like shuffling the deckchairs on the titanic.

beer's not a smokey. he has played 5 shield games, and with an average of 40 he is obviously causing all sorts of trouble to the opposition.
also he does play for WA, and at least 2 of those shield games were prob at the WACA so he brings immense home ground experience.

hughes and smith great choices to improve our batting. i think combined they average nearly forty this season.
and yep johnson has sorted all his problems out. the poms will be shaking.
