How the hell can you drop Johnson and then bring him back next game....

This is the sitation the selectors find themselves in now. Reminscent of Pommy selectors of days gone by ie pick a bloke, drop him for a test or 2 then bring him back OR rip through a swarm of spinners by giving them a test or 2 then discarding them for ever OR picking a bloke woefully out of form and hoping he can turn it around in a test match.....

young quicks are something we actually have a few of. guys in form who have earnt a go. but no. play the same quicks who have done nothing.
hauritz must be worried. he has been getting wickets, and his form for Oz was never that bad and he cant get in ahead of blokes who cant get wickets at shield level. i dont rate him much but in a team where few are performing, but fewer are losing thier spots he is unlucky.

You can only assume they went with the most WACA experienced spinner they could find.

Not really sure Beer fits that bill though.
No,he's moved over from Victoria.Crazy selection.

An absolute joke the selectors are. Hughes 4 & 0 in latest shield game before that was averaging 25 in first class cricket. What's wrong with Phil Jaques??? 100 in his last test before being injured, the new Brad Hodge perhaps? Michael Klinger unlucky. I mean we can see these guys perform in shield cricket week in week out but what are the selectors watching? They're not picking on form that's for damn sure. Aaron Heal a better spinner than Beer in WA's side. Got me baffled half the team should go and all of the selectors should go. Where's Hilditch's head at?

Good to see Cook is acting human again :P Good on the young Victorian Hill, Vic under 19 captain, Australian under 19 captain, the kid can play.

How's that? They name the team and Hughes promptly gets a duck.
No form and no hope. Amazing selection. We are in dire straights.

Not only that Ferguson makes a 100 and doesn't get selected, stupid stupid stupid. And Beer seems to have been selected because he plays on the WACA. Just insane.

Go poms.

correction- he has played on the WACA 3 times. but yes, seemingly a little insane.

im leaning toward them playing 4 quicks and smith as the spinner.

Good luck to Beer but cant help think he's no.11 in the post Wanre production line of spinners with no.12 not far away.

What happened to the tried and true selection method of picking players on form? Marsh and Copeland (60 wickets in 10 matches) should be in.

And what the hell was Cameron White doing declaring at 2/216? Spat the dummy after failing? Didn't want D.Hussey to push his claims with a ton? Thought it would be sporting to allow plenty of centre-wicket practice time for Matt Prior in case the Aussies miraculously take five cheap wickets? Didn't think a couple of days in the field was probably not what the likes of Strauss and Cook wanted as a warm-up for the Test? And this bloke's supposed to be a great leader? ???

I thought the declaration was strange too but England have just declared early also at 2/184 so maybe White and Strauss have agreed before the game to both declare early and try and get a result.

It`s only a 3 day game.

im not sure they would be to fussed about a result, tho im sure a target will be set.
i reckon he declared to give his bowlers a go. 4 batsmen had some time in the middle. in the 2nd innings im sure a few others will get a go.

as far as hussey goes i reckon he has about as much chance as hodge of making the test team, despite being the 2nd highest run scorer in shield cricket this year, and the highest last year.

Seems likely.
