Looks like the poms will have a decent last day chase, already over 300 with 4 wickets remaining. By the looks of the end of day two with the non-declaration and the increase in run rate (what about McKay? Showing some form!) they will be chasing about 350 off 70 to 75 overs.

A few young vics have shown some promise with the bat this game. Hill in the first innings and Carters and Keith in the second. Carters, was the keeper who filled in for New Zealand in the PM XI game in 2009 when McCullum was injured and Keith, we all know who he is, is according to the ABC commentary team from todays effort the next big thing. It sounded like they all played a decent and hungry bowling attack quite well.

We may have a lull for a while, but i'm pretty confidant we'll be back before too long. With a change at the top and a cleanout on and off the field, we'll have a pretty bright future in a few years. We wont have any instant gratification now, it seems there may be some pain in the near future and of course now, as it's the first time in a long while that we'll be beaten at home, it's gunna hurt, especially as it's the poms.

Yep, they've stuffed up by keeping players who are out of form and not up to it. Unfortunately now, as all tiger fans know, patience is a virtue.

How is this quote from the Foxsport website for form

"Shock Ashes selection Michael Beer fails to make a big enough impact to justify his call-up as Western Australia hold off Queensland in a rain-delayed Sheffield Shield match at the Gabba."

He got two overs before a deluge started FFS

25 years ago was the last time the Australian team was in such need of overhaul. The long haul back began with dumping Hilditch then too.

Should've stuck with Doherty. Lol at Johnson be re-instated. Just knew they would do that.

Soft.

This is the sitation the selectors find themselves in now. Reminscent of Pommy selectors of days gone by ie pick a bloke, drop him for a test or 2 then bring him back OR rip through a swarm of spinners by giving them a test or 2 then discarding them for ever OR picking a bloke woefully out of form and hoping he can turn it around in a test match.....

Well said. The selectors are in panic mode.

Australia should move to have cricket played in the nets. The number of players we have who are "hitting them well in the nets" or "bowling well in the nets" is amazing.

Correct. No message that is being drummed into the media, constant mixed messages.

Andrew Hilditch has to be moved on. The review needs to be done quick and with sweeping changes. Reckon Tubby Taylor would be a good chairman of selectors.

Dan Christian has to become a staple in 50 & 20 over cricket. Same with Khawaja.

First time I have seen Nic Maddinson but gee he plays like he is 28 and not 18.

They all looked good didn't they. Christian is brutal.

Good to see Hiditch's position may come under review post Ashes.

Can't help but feel this guy an others (as evo puts it) is indeed in panic mode.
Does anyone else think because Warnie named Beer in an article last week that Hilditch & co. picked him largely on that basis?? :spin

That might explain to Hilditch's misses why he keeps moaning "Liz" in his sleep.

Navys said for a while he's the best young batsman in the country.

The gap only widens INO.
