Test cricket, particularly the ashes - don't you just love it. Today was one of the best days of cricket you will see. How good has the niggle been?

Much thanks must go to the curator, what a great wicket he has provided. Gotta have ticker and technique on that pitch. Even the disenchanted would have been thrilled with the day? Can hardly wait for tomorrow, how big will the Melb test be if we can square it up here?

Amazing how many fast bowlers drop too short at the WACA. Watson has been brilliant at waiting for the right ball. Great concentration, he's shown a belligerence I didn't think he had. He just may be maturing into a serious cricketer.

How can you doubt the survival of such a great game?

It certainly is great to have a game not being played on a road for a change.

I have no issue with people calling for Ponting's head. You need to perform.

But do we really want Mr Soft being our next captain? I know I don't.

Time for Ponting to drop down to 6 like Border did near the end and play Usman Khawaja at 3 next test.

Smith to play and bat at 8 with one of our quicks most likely Hilfenhaus to carry the drinks.

I sure don't want Clarke as captain.

Horrible decision by the selectors to not play Johnson in the shield & keep him with Troy Cooley to rectify his technique. Then bring him straight back in Perth where he has discovered inswing for just about the first time on his career. Its not luck but good management that this has happened.

Hands up who got it wrong? Plenty in the media world & plenty on here.

& as navy has said all series there is not much between these two teams.

I would have played him in the shield. Cooley could have worked with him during/after/before the shield match. Or even plenty of times over the last 2 years. If all it takes is to work with Johnson in the nets for an extended period then his loss over form over the last 2 years is even more shameful for the cricket heirachy.

Bit of a non even for me this match now - layed the draw pre-game and backed it back at $25.

Come on JB.

If Johnson is away on playing shield how can he also work with the other Australian bowlers he has a duty to in the leadup to the test. Not possible.

Johnson needed time to repeat the technical changes made under the guy that instructed him. With no-one else in his ear.

In this case its patently clear he also didnt need shield form first to be able to perform at test level. Just needed some work done to remedy his action.

The selection panel pulled the perfect reign. Especially with 3 tests in 3 weeks to follow.

Good punting, always an excellent lay in Perth with 2 batting lineups prone to collapse. Especially Englands when faced with a pitch that has a little life.

Can Watson go on with it and get triple figures or will he AGAIN Fail to convert?
Oh Dear...Deserved a ton,But still has that Monkey on his back for at least another innings.

I don't have a problem with this, but would rather see Ponting stay at 3 for 5 tests so that any new potential number 3 gets time to adjust to test cricket batting at 5-6.

Punter must be due for 300 runs next innings too. :hihi

Hussey, you are a champ! Has been good when the team is under pressure. What a series he is having.

Harris out, Aus 8 for 284, a lead of 365. We need plenty more I suspect, at least another 50.

I'm happy the selectors didn't follow popular opinion and drop him.

My old boss (a very good cricketer in his time) used to know the Hussey family really well. Always used to talk about Mike Hussey's approach to making sure he was ready for a game when he first broke into the WA Shield side.

He really wanted to play test cricket, that's for sure.
