Absolutely perfect summary, unfortunately.IanG said:Went to the test today and I can categorically say that that was probably the worst days cricket I have seen from an Aust. team ever. Sure the wicket favoured the bowlers but it wasn't a minefield, and with application and determination the Australians should have made it to tea with the loss of 4 or so wickets after which they could have made hay.
Instead we got:
Watson got a good ball but was dropped twice before that and always looked like getting out. And his bowling was pathetic late in the day as well.
Hughes who can't score a run on the leg side, I never realised before how off sided he is. It beggars belief how an attacking batsman of short stature can make it this far being so deficient. And it was a pathetic shot that he got out to.
Ponting out to his usual weakness, good ball but he shouldn't get out that way.
Clarke actually looked good while he was out there but no application and he gets out to a poor shot.
Hussey looked a class above but he got a good ball, the only batsman who could categorically say luck deserted him.
Smith, and I am emphasizing this, has the worst defensive technique of any top 6 Aust. batsman I can remember. His defense is unbelievably poor, he looks good when playing attacking shots but will never play any innings of substance until he fixes his defence. It reflects extremely poorly on the judgement of the selectors that he is chosen as a no. 6, so much so it makes them look completely incompetent. He should be a bowling all rounder or not in at all.
Haddin out to an extremely poor shot.
As for the bowling, perhaps a tad unlucky to begin bowling right at the moment the wicket turned but even so they all looked poor. The English bowlers stuck to an extremely consistent good length the Australian bowlers couldn't. Mitchell Johnson is so hot and cold its ridiculous.
Yep we aren't good enough. Struggling in all areas ATMTigers of Old said:Ponting and to a slightly lesser extent Clarke continue to have a nightmare of a series.
Just not good enough at this point unfortunately.
Several changes need to be made & bring in youth for next test series.Kattich,Hussey,Haddin,Smith (not ready) to make way for Hughes,Kawaja,Ferguson & Paine.Hussey & Haddin stiff but we've got to look at the long term.Quesyion mark remains over Clarke & Ponting. In terms of the bowlers not sure what the answer is,Harris will go reasonably soon as his knee is not great but not sure what to do with the others. We lack a real strike bowler.Punxsutawney Phil said:Yep we aren't good enough.
