Cricket

Good to see the a couple of good leaders in Cam White (capt) & Tim Paine (VC) being chosen to take on more responsibility for Australia's 20/20 team in the future.

Now onto tonights 20/20 game. We're 1 from 2 & showing a slight profit thus far. Good little series that provides some good light entertainment backed by the excellent fox sports commentary team. Fleming, Waugh, Blewitt & Julian & AB do a great job that dwarfes the nine lot.

Tasmania have a more than handy side in this year so we'll stick with them @ $1.70 to continue there run against Qld at the Gabba tonight.

Good luck all.

Also whoever said that Steve Smith needs to go back to shield cricket is bang on. What this young man needs most of all is to bowl long spells trying to get batsman at in the longer forms of the game.

Bowling defensively in national one day & 20/20 cricket is currently a far worse route for his development as a spinner.

The world cup will give us a gauge as to whether it is age that has caught him or simply a run of form.

Pray tell how this will be a gauge of his Test cricket performances Naisy?
He has failed massively on the biggest of stages this series and has been in apparent decline for some time.
We don't play our next Test for 8 months. What is the point of hanging onto a bloke past his useby date when a team of past glories needs a major overhaul?
Surely we are better off giving the 'easier' slots to up and commers rather than those in deterioration.

Bryce McGain said this morning that the Vics polish the ball the way the Poms do. We have a dedicated polisher - some-one with dry hands. When he played his Test he said the bowlers from different States all had different ideas on how to look after the ball. As a result, they couldn't agree and they just gave it a bit of a random polish with no ball strategy in mind. He said the Victorian ball looks just like the Pommy ball after 30 or so overs and our Vic bowlers swing and seam it. He also confirmed Cook is the go to ball polisher for the Poms and probably because he doesn't sweat much.

the following quote from A foxsports article

Victoria were charged with ball tampering during their eight-wicket Sheffield Shield victory over South Australia. The Victorians were penalised five runs and face a hearing after being charged by umpires under Cricket Australia's code of conduct.

The Bushrangers were charged under Rule 1.7 which regards "failure by a team to ensure that the condition of the ball is not changed".

I wonder if these are related at all??

Maybe, maybe not ;D

Mark Waugh is the best I have heard. Very entertaining man. Nine should try and get him.

Great to see that Finch is being looked at for the next 2 20/20 matchs. He has Warner covered I think.

Cam White being leader is a great call.

Clarke thanks for facing facts.

In an ideal world he could hand over now to a succesor that ticks some boxes.

But to give two reasons. As the greatest run scorer this country has seen he deserves the chance to move into an easier slot in the order before the curtain is drawn.

He is also the most deserving leader we have to take us into the next 12-18 months. He has the fortitude to take the heat whilst the side rebuilds. Hussey is as old as Ponting with no captaincy experience. Clarke should be dropped. Haddin is 33 has already been dropped from the 20/20's for Paine. Who judging by todays announcement of his vice captaincy in that team & captain of PM's XI is obviously being groomed as a future leader to take Haddins spot in the near future. There is simply no-one else.

Agree Smith needs to bowl in proper cricket. Has talent but gee he played some up-country swipes today. Hopefully the selectors will do what's right for his long-term development. Our bowling and batting are both areas of great concern. As is our fielding. :-\ Unfortunately the best you can say at the moment is we talk a good game, and that's no compliment either.

I like the look of Starc but tend to agree with Geoff Lawson that young bowlers are molly-coddled these days yet keep breaking down - the two could well be related. I like Hazlewood and Copeland and would love to see Pattinson make it but it will have to be as an all-rounder I think. That's not out of the question from what I'm told.

Agree with your assessment of Punter's standing Navy, but I'd be working hard on Hughes. Too much talent to juts discard. he might have to go back to the Shield for a year but he'd be in my long term plans. His and Khawaja's 2nd innings dismissals were almost identical.

The Fox Sports boys are streets ahead of the Nine crew. Fleming is as insightful as he is funny, and Border and Mark Waugh just talk sense. Junior highlighted that Ponting is squaring up and falling across his stumps, the two major reasons he is getting out.

Sorry but I disagree with this entirely. There is always someone else.
Yes Ricky has been a great player for Australia previously but not in the past two seasons and at 36 years of age many cricketers have their ticket punched when they fail to perform, especially in a struggling team.
Last cricketing year his output was down but moderate, this year in particular Ricky simply has not performed.
To spell it out again he now has one hundred from his past 37 innings. ONE.
You forecast Punter to be the top run scorer in the series and he ended it with an average per innings of 16 and a long term injury.
An unmitigated failure on all levels in easily the most important series on the Aussie cricket calendar. At home no less.
Ricky's failure to fire sent shockwaves through the squad and the team's confidence went south. As we well know the fish rots from the head.
This team was comprehensively flogged Naisy in all areas & the sooner we recognise this catastrophe for what it is, the closer we will be to regaining the Ashes.
A complete rebuild is required and if that means a few high profile names are those to go then so be it. Patience is required sure but not for those who have been there and done that. Bring in the fresh blood.

Time to go Punter.

You say bring in the fresh blood Tooheys but yet want to stall the development of possibly the best young leader (which we so badly need) in the country (Tim Paine) by deploying a 33 y.o Haddin as captain.

Not that fussed on having Haddin as skipper Naisy but am adamant Ricky has to go.
Heck I don't care if we do what South Africa did with Graham Smith and find the best young leader we can but it's time for change at the top.

Who is it though mate?

Certainly no Graeme Smiths around if you havent noticed. Both in batting & leadership.

How do we know that unless someone is given opportunities that those clearly past it are taking up?
Maybe a Graeme Smith will make themselves apparent in the near future.

How do you think Mark Taylor and Steve Waugh would have gone as captains without Warne, McGrath, Gilchrist/Healy, the Waughs, Hayden and Langer in their sides?

Would they be rated as highly as we do? Or would their records be worse?

Not good by the Tasmanian boys tonight. Below their ability which can happen in 20/20.

Plenty of games coming up to get the winner needed to get ahead.

Might even be Michael Clarke if he's allowed out of Punter's shadow.
Time to go Punter.

Giving Clarke the job when he cant get a run since moving up to take some responsibility at 4...

In case you haven't noticed Ponting isn't scoring any.
At least Clarke has a chance of being around the next Ashes series.
Not fussed on Clarke but..
Time to go Punter.
