Great effort from Watson.

He may draw confidence from this innings and start converting some of those fifties into hundreds in the test arena.

You woke me up SticksDays.

ODI's are watchable at the night end of the 2nd innings and only if it's a close game.

Always amusing to read a thread where punters come on telling how disinterested they are in it.

Though agree one-dayers can be monotonous. With the World Cup coming up navy has more interest than normal it must be said.

On tonights game top chase that. Watsons innings was flawless. His teammates batted well around him to chase down a hard target with ease..

Now that's watchable and puntable. I might place a bit of dough on one of the minors. ;D

Only 4 weeks away.

Not sure the change in batting order was necessary. Would have thought White would have been suited to come out when the power play was on.

Tough crowd.

Chase down the 2nd biggest one-day total at the "G" comfortably & questions still asked...

Yeah Smith should not have been lifted up the order. White is our biggest hitter of the ball.

The thing with White is he always needs at least an over or more than likely two before he comes to terms with things.
This doesnt help him when he is coming in with 3 overs to come in a power play.

Whilst Smith is a far inferior batsmen & cant accelerate anywhere near like White he does have more ability to connect from the off.

Great effort by the Aussies.

Hussey's cameo was very valuable - took the game away from England at a crucial stage when Watson was buggered.

It was good to see Smith tested at that position. Didn't come off, but it was clearly a look to the future. We know White can do it and we gave Smith an opportunity. Both he and Clarke were a bit stiff. The opportunities were through the off side at that stage and they both holed out unluckily.

Can,t believe we are taking Johnson & Tait to the WC.Both are loose cannons.
Have to question why Peter Siddle is even in the running for a spot. His record in the shorten game isn,t that good at State level.

That is your opinion and I don't agree. In fact, it is hard to work out what Smith has done to earn such a charmed run in selection.

And should have put Johnson in if that was the criteria.

good match tonight. Still like Test a lot better but 50/50 sh!ts all over 20/20.
For once I don't agree: re 20/20 which is effectively the 50 over games with the boring 30 over middle stretch removed. Remarkably the short form games have been very close and exciting.

Overall, I thought batting was very good last night. England bowling was far more professional, which made our result all the more impressive. I didn't watch much of the game, but Dougie is surely not going on the plane. And Johnson is far too erratic.

Overall, we gave away 13 wides/no balls to their 4. Including a wicket on a no ball. Absolutely unforgiveable. That's the 3rd time this summer (that I can recall).

Lack of discipline when bowling is shocking. McGrath as bowling coach - get rid of Cooley!

Watch White play. He always takes a little bit of time to settle before he gets going.

But agree putting Johnson in with a licence could well have had a better result.

On Smith, yes the selectors are pushing him up moreso to get experience rather than just picking on merit. He does have some ability with the ball but is a long way off an international cricketer ATM.

Not to say Smith will turn out like him but Steve Waugh went 26 tests before his first test century. So it can take some players a long time. But would definately play D.Hussey ahead of him at the World Cup as they will likely be fighting for the same berth.

agree with you there on white. takes his time to get going. if he does he more than makes up for his slow starts. D. Hussey is similar, tho not as explosive.
Also agree re Smith. must be one of the few players in world cricket who gets picked as a no 7 batsmen, and a no 6/7 bowler., he is also an average fielder.

In regards to the slow death of 50 over cricket am I too simple to say that T20 should become T25 and just be done with the ODI format?
