Watson and Hodge opening the batting would be the best thing we could do as they are the best 2 bats. Clarke is not an opening batsman, he does not hit enough 4's to cause any damage.Haddin/Paine to bat at 7 would be good for our team as they are good strikers of the ball.

If Paine and Haddin both play in the same team will our coach/captain make the right call and keep Paine?

Clarke actually has a better record when opening - he has opened 20 times for 782 runs @ 43.44 with a strike rate of 83.5, but I agree he should not open. Paine & Watson look the pair for me. Maybe Hodge will get the call up for hussey and open.

ask navy why he thinks hodge can only bat top 3 please.

Because he likes the ball coming into the bat Brodders, especially with the field up.

We have better players to come in at 4,5 or 6 when the pace is off the ball on sub-continent pitches.

He batted in the middle order for Australia in his last one-day series versus India in 07/08.

His result - 7 matches - 59 runs @ an average of 9 - with a strike rate of just 50.

Its simply not his go for the type of bowling he'll face in those conditions.
It will be opening or nothing for him.

As Bigcat said Clarke has a good record as an opener for the one-day side. Not saying he should play there but has performed there in the past.

On the last point, you'd think Paine would keep but might also depend on their respective fielding abilities so who knows.

Time to continue with our succesful Big Bash on the punt.

Navy believes SA & Tas are the best two teams in this years comp.

Tas travel to NSW tonight & should be too strong. Think it will take a big Warner innings for NSW to have much chance.

Back of Tas @ $1.95.

Boom Boom Boom. Another winner for the followers.

judging by the amount of runs he scores, and the speed he scores them he seems to alright against all bowlers.

his last tour of india was a long time ago, he has scored a mountain of runs since then. whether he would replicate that against international attacks we will never know because he hasnt been, and wont be, given the opportunity.

Just not when he comes to the crease with the boundaries covered against decent slow bowling it seems.

based on his record 4 years ago?

Agree brodders, reckon leysy is using some old stats - Hodge is roundly acknowledged by his peers as one of the best one-day/T20 players in Aust in the last 5 years. Not many can play some of the innings he has to drag the Vics over the line time and again. His ability to place the ball and change the pace of an innings is a strongpoint IMO. Reckon D Hussey would admit Hodge has better form than him and deserves a spot in front of him. Hodge could bat anywhere from opening to 6 and be an asset for the Aussies.

It was 3 years ago before he was deservedly dropped.

He averaged 38 in the domestic one-day scene the year before his move to open 18 months ago.

It is since then that Hodge has really turned up the acid. Is it coincidence these have been easily his best years on the one day domestic scene or is it that he's suddenly found his best form at 35...

He would likely show his worth as an opener if selected no question. (lets hope more than his national one day performances thus far). But not being able to play in the middle order at 33 points pretty strongly to not being able to a 36 for navy.

Cmon Big Cat. You would choose Hodge to play ahead of Hussey to bat at 6 which is likely where Hussey will bat.

Hussey is a million times better fieldsman which is a big thing to consider in an already poor fielding side.
Is a lot better bowler, especially on slow pitches.
Is a better player of spin.

Sorry makes no sense for what the Aus team need in this World Cup.

before his bad tour of india hodge averaged nearly 40 at a strike rate of 90. 1 bad tour and he was dropped never to be seen again.
many of the current team are lucky those rules dont apply to them.

i cannot believe someone who can so comprehensively dominate domestic cricket cannot bat anywhere in the order, and cannot be worth a shot in a team the certainly has some doubts about its batting.

Leysy just doesn't like Victorians.

I move we deport him back to his own country.l

Cmon evo-lad fair suck. Navy loves a Victorian team called Richmond & all the key forwards they've had that have thrilled us over the years.

Royce Hart, Disco Roach, Richo, Jack...oh wait.
