he did a great job with india

He was coach from May 2005 - 2007. His record:
Test - 7 wins 7 draws 4 losses (includes 2 wins against Zimbabwe and one against Sri Lanka at home)
ODI - 32 wins 27 losses 3 no result

World Cup 2007 - Fail to clear 1st round
ICC Champions Trophy - Fail to clear first round as host

Yes he wanted wholesale replacements for the world cup and didn't get them and they failed badly in 2007 but he also wanted wholesale changes for the test side.

He wanted to get rid of Tendulkar/Sehwag/Laxman/Dravid/Ganguly. He was also no fan of Singh & Khan who have since come out and criticised him. He basically wanted to get rid of all these players who have since been the best perfomed players in the team in the 3+ years since he was sacked.

If you read comments of the Indian players none of them have much flattering to say about Chappell. Great job with india - a bit of an exaggeration

Wouldn't be an easy side to coach

tough gig for an indian, not worth any money for a white aussie

you dont think politics would have played any part in any of that?

indian cricket with gunguly at the helm was a joke and its well known the players either kissed his arse or didn't play. worst culture in world cricket, lucky they had some talent. is it any wonder chappell wanted them all gone?

now with ganguly gone, india imo are the yardstick in international cricket and easily the best team to watch.

Can we now refer to Pup as Scratcher Clarke? No one can scratch out a 15 like Clarke.

I didn't think Clarke was doing a bad job as Captain of the one day side, but today's effort of persisting with quicks who were getting smacked all over the park left me scratching my head.

I know hindsight is a wonderful thing, but when he brought the spinners on, we put England under the pump. the bit that concerned me was that he seemed reluctant to try something different, even for an over or two.

Maybe just a bad day at the office.

Also on Clarke, why would he drop himself down the order?

Why not go up the order an open. He has done so before and is quite serviceable.

He is not an explosive batsman, so I don't think he is suited to anywhere below 4, but he can accumulate runs with singles and twos at a run a ball.

He'd be better doing that for us as an opener rather than scratching for runs lower down the order when we need some big clean hitting.
