1. Bradman (NSW)
2. Warne (Vic)
3. Miller (Vic)
4. Lillee (WA)
5. McGrath (NSW)
6. Border (NSW)
7. Ponting (Tas)
8. O'Reilly (NSW)
9. S.Waugh (NSW)
10. G.Chappell (SA)

A rough, subjective, totally up for debate and change of mind/mood top 10, off the top of my head. The first seven are pretty much set in stone in my mind, but plenty could fill the last three spots. I could easily swap Lillee and Miller, maybe McGrath, which would mean Victoria has only produced two of Australia's best four-five cricketers. But Miller was a killer with the new ball, a super batsman and fielder, played football for Victoria and could handle a Messerschmidt up his arse, so he gets my vote.
No doubt people always believe guys from there era were the best, Surley Gilchrist has to be in the best 11 of all time, im not sure however I dont think any keeper has got anywhere near his batting average and match winning capabilities

Can see why Paine hasn't been getting a game

Yep, Taswegians squealing about him not getting a go then he shows why he wasnt getting a go.

Jesus, the Aussies opening with two keepers, Adam Vogues, Jason Krejza.

Let's just call it Australia A and 3/4.

Shambles of a game.

Writing off Tim Paine. Interesting.

Should be well worth bringing up in the future.

I can't recall a one day game that featured a combined 38 wides.

Yep there was some pretty ordinary bowling mixed in with some ripper balls.

From the time Pietersen went out it was one of the more boring ODIs I have ever watched.

despite the boringness, and yes the onedayers should have been 5 games at the most, at least the aussies finished the summer well.

lee had a good series, as did D Hussey, Smith and Johnson. Clarke finished the series well.
Haddin, Hastings and Dougie went ok.
White struggled but to his credit he battled thru to play a couple fo important innings.
Watson had a very good series. He is by far the most important player heading into the world cup.

And Tait was Tait. hopefully he breaks down properly before India.
Having Marsh, Ferguson and Voges score some runs was a bonus.

They will leave to India with a little reason for optimism.

I'd add Lee as a rival for most important. Bowled very well in most outings.

Batting overall is coming together: Watson/Haddin/D Hussey pretty solid, with Clarke (Ponting, M Hussey?) making a solid batting line up. I also like the look of Marsh and Ferguson

Bowling - apart from Lee/Watson - is a bit scary. Dougie/Tait/Johnson can easily go for 65; we need another 10/0/46/1 bowler.

The spinning spot is a worry.

Hauritz & Doherty are both under big injury clouds to whether they will be fit enough to mahke the squad. None are world beaters but both should be able to do a job on those wickets.

Underneath them the cupboards pretty bare.

Yeah they probably could L&D. But at full strength Navy wouldnt have Smith in the side & would play Hussey in his spot at 7.

But ideally on a lot of those pitches taking pace off the ball is king. Really need more than 10 overs of slow bowling if possible.

Navy likes Huss, will prove an excellent choice over there. As navy pointed out to a bit of angst at the time of his selection certainly better than Hodge for the role they need.

Fields exceptionally, plays slow bowling extremely well, when in form can score very freely when first at the crease & reckon he can give you 6 or 7 cheap overs most matches. All that makes him extremely valuable for a World Cup on the sub continent.

As an aside if at full strength & Hussey bats higher than 7 to fit another bowler in he takes White's spot in the side navy would think.

No argument here. Neither Symonds (when he played) nor White have an ability to be 10 of 14-15 balls after nudging it around for singles. The difference is that Symonds was able to start clobbering the thing at about ball 15-20. White is clearly out of form, but he must be worried about his ability to up the ante after he has his eye in. At present D Huss is way ahead.

We definitely need someone else who can bowl 6-7 overs of nude stuff

Whether there are 5 or 7 games is neither here nor there. But gee, how right is Andrew Strauss when he says the one-dayers should be played first?

No matter how much they try to sugar coat it, the truth is that everyone involved acknowledges that the Test series is of overwhelming importance in comparison. The one-dayers would get a little bit more interest if played first because there would still be a bit of jostling for psychological points for the main event to come.

When the one-dayers are played second, I reckon the team that won the Test series is on a hiding to nothing. They've done their job, got what they came for, and all they want to do is get home.

Great Post. Have 5 ODI's, then the tests, then a best of 3 20/20.
