With Mike Hussey's sooking he should be retired immediately.Time to rid this type of selfishness out of the team.

Here is what he said:

"The precedent has sort of been set from the last time with Andrew Symonds," Hussey told reporters. "He came in about the third or the fourth game in the previous World Cup and played a really big part in our team, he was an important part of the team.

"I was hoping that would be the same sort of thing for me really - that they'd give me every chance to have a crack at it at least. I thought I could push for the second game and definitely be right for the third game."

I feel like I maybe deserved that chance to have a bit of a go at it, but they obviously saw differently so it's disappointing," he said. "It probably just shows that you can't look too far ahead. You've just got to try and enjoy every opportunity you get to play for Australia - every tournament, every World Cup, every game that you get. You've got to enjoy every one because it can sort of all end pretty quickly."

Sooking? I reckon this is mild. You are running some agenda on Hussey...

i think hodge will retire after leading the vics to one-day victory. will prob keep playing 20/20 tho.

his form since being overlooked for the world cup has been average.

I reckon you are right. His form has certainly gone downhill....the fire in the belly can only burn for so long.

Am cursing myself that I didn't watch the game last night....kept over and thought it was done and dusted so didn't see the end.

Hodge is also looking every one of his years in the field. His arms shot & is moving horribly. Definately the right decision not taking him to the World Cup.

Punxsutawney Phil said:
Maxwell's innings must have been something to watch.

Yeah was an unbelievable display of clean striking Philster. Turned the game in a matter of a few balls.

Hopefully it gives him some confidence to go on with it. Is only 22 as well. Seems to have been around a while so thought he was older.

Exactly, am well overdue for a loser by now. ;)

Must be hurting not being able to post after navy's bets when they've all been winners of late.

Dont worry one of them will lose eventually. Surely...

Sounds like sooking to me.

What would you have said in that situation, if a reporter had asked the question?
Accepted there was a risk had he gone & he understood the reasoning that we need fit players.

Sounds to me like Huss sees the writing on the wall.

However I also find Punter's words a little odd and a touch selfish also.
He isn't fit either yet but he's going and will play with pain but the finger's 100%?
How does that work?

Haven't missed him one iota since he didn't play the ODIs so he'd want to do very well in the WC.
No excuses.

Critical tournament for Punter,if he doesn't make runs he'll probbaly be retired.

Nah mate, not hurting at all. In fact it hurts more to continually highlight the losing tips! Gives a man Reptitive Strain Injury.

What he said (is similar such words accepting that you should have fit players at the World Cup and can understand the selector's reasoning).

huss can accumulate and also score quickly when required and most importantly has the smarts and temperanment to know when to do what. he is a brilliant gully fieldsman and a loved and respected character and an integral part of the team dynamics. he is also coming off a great ashes series with the bat. he can bat anywhere from 4-6 and has won world cups before. on the back of all that should have been given every chance.

i'd be pissed too if i were him. his exclusion is further evidence that the selectors have no clue especially when the guys like ferguson and smith are not even worthy enough to chuck a few throwdowns for him

btw im not a hussey lover

Good points LB&C, agree he should have been given some leeway, especially if he is likely available for Games 2 onwards.

and as huss rightly pointed out there was a precedence of carrying a unfit player, symonds, into a world cup with success
