The wicket looked to be doing a bit last night so l'm happy to wait a couple more games before l get worried about the batting.Bowling is a concern.

Our inability to run through the tail is a concern. We had them 8/138 and they get 214. Krejza was disappointing, can't see him being the matchwinner other spinners will be.

The wicket is typical of what we will be getting, its the subcontinent, anyone who thinks otherwise is deluded.

Clarke & Whites form is a real worry.

Spot on Big Cat,l'm not sure we'll get those types of wickets all the time though.

End of an era for the Bushwackers.

Have been a bit stiff with injuries this year with McKay, Rogers and McDonald missing large chunks of the season. Can't complain about players missing for national duties because every state has those.

There is pretty good depth & talent in the bowling which should keep the Vics competitive.

Its the batting that has dropped away. Be interesting to see if they perservere with the highs & lows that a young batting order brings over the next few years or of they do what they've done in recent years & look to recruit experienced players to bolster that facet.

Aussies flogged in the last warm up game. Getting a dose of reality after the series against the Poms.

Going to need to improve significantly if they are to progress very far in the tournament proper.

They're certainly not peaking too early are they.

If you look at the Vics best team this time last year it included Rogers , Jewell , Hodge , Hussey and White . That's a massive hit to the batting line up so it will take some time to recover from that . Wade's batting has gone off this year as well. Hussey and White playing for Australia of course but time to rebuild .
Bailey is a very impressive player and leader these days for Tassie . 160 not out in a 4th innings to win a game is a great achievement at this level.

Yeah the Vics have lost a lot of experience in the batting at once no doubt. Good chance for some young batsman to be given a run they wouldnt have had previously.

The better way to go over the past couple of years for navy would have been not to recruit an experienced player already playing shield like Rogers & blood a young player. Hill, Carters or whoever while they were still surrounded by those guys you mentioned. Would make there transition much easier. Cricket Victoria obviously didnt see it that way at the time.

On Bailey, an unabashed admirer is navy. In a rich vein of form ATM. 160 not out on a day 4 chase without giving a chance is outstanding. Victoria will be pleased not to bowl to him for a while. His leadership, tactical nouse & positive persona are all qualities that would be very handy in Australian colours right now. Not to mention his batting which is really maturing & that he's possibly the best inside the ring fieldman in the country.

Agreed and I really hope they do rebuild with youth, I'd like to see an almost under 25 team next season.

Finch
Hill
Carters
Maxwell
Hussey
White
Wade
Hastings
Holland
Siddle
Pattinson

extras: Keath, Gulbis, Stray, Sheridan.

Mackay, Quiney & McDonald for reserve.
Thanks to Hodgey, Rogers, Nannes, Cleary,, Wright and D Pattinson etc.

Understand what you're saying but I'd like to see Hastings and Keath as the all rounders, both of these guys are and will be Australian players. McDonald probably won't be.

Forget Macca,injury riddled now

he has had a few injuries this summer. not sure about before that.
he is under 30, led the shield in batting averages this year, scored the most centuries and taken wickets, averaging less than 25 with the ball.

im not sure he will be forgotten by the vic selectors, and possibly the aust selectors, if he continues this form next summer.

I know McDonald wont be ignored by Vic selectors, it was just my own desire to draw the "line in the sand" and start afresh and have a young team ( apart from Hussey). As I said Hastings is a current Australian player and obviously Keath is a fair chance to also be. McDOnald, I doubt if he'll play for Australia again.

He won't

I agree , he won't get another go for the Aussie team but he is a massively underated cricketer imo. You don't have a 1st class average in the high 30's and 150 wickets at less than 30 and not be a very good cricketer. He probably suffers from not being quite good enough at either. In the longer form of the game as an allrounder he is behind only Watson in Australian cricket . Better record than James Hopes for example at shield level .

At Sheffield Shield level he would be one of the first picked for the VICs when fit I reckon.

Agree McDonald has been a bit underrated.

In a good team he wasnt & wouldnt have been out of place at international level. His bowling will generally be very tight which is what is needed when strike bowlers are having a spell. Agree though that his time has past for what Australia needs in his role.

On an all-rounder to look out for. Young 20 year old from Tasmania James Faulkner averages 35 with the bat & 21 with the ball after 10 shield games. They are excellent numbers.

Hopefully he can continue to develop.

I've sort of liked the look of Luke Butterworth as an all-rounder over the past couple of seasons.

Macca's biggest misstake this year has been coming back too early after injury
