a great end to the shield regular season today.
both tassie and nsw had to chase down good scores to win, and they both managed to win by a few wickets.
so tassie will host the shield final.

should be interesting. tassie's strength has been their bowling, their batsmen have been a bit inconsistent so there is a good chance for a result, a rarity in the shield final.

All of what you say is very true Bordders.

Tas chased down 373 on a turning 4th day pitch to win there 5th outright match in a row to host the final. Very gutsy effort under pressure. NSW performed a similar chase to roll WA. They will boast a far stronger side to the one that was rolled by Tas last week tosetup an evenly poised match.

Combine Tas's bowling strength V their sometimes brittle batting with the always lively Bellerive pitch & unlike other finals this match has no chance of a boring shield final draw. Will be settled inside 4 days let alone 5.

Should be good viewing between clearly the two best domestic teams to see who are crowned champions.

Cricket NSW selectors have added Usman Khawaja to the squad of twelve that defeated the Retravision Warriors yesterday, for the Weet-Bix Sheffield Shield Final against Tasmania starting in Hobart on Thursday.

Khawaja has recovered from a hamstring injury and played grade cricket for the Randwick-Petersham club on Saturday, scoring 22 opening the batting.

Stuart Clark was not considered as he has not recovered from a foot injury.

Getting back into the game against an opponent scoring over 300 in the first innings of a match has not been easy for New South Wales. This is the first time since January 2008, when New South Wales also beat Western Australia in Sydney, that they have been able to force a win against a team that has batted first and scored over 300 runs. In the six such matches between then and today, New South Wales has lost one and drawn five.

The RTA SpeedBlitz Blues will be seeking their 46th Sheffield Shield title, and their first since 2007-08. They were also the last state to win the Final away from home, achieving the feat in 2004-05 when they beat Queensland at The Gabba.

The squad of 13 is (two to be omitted on the morning of the match) :

1.Katich (c)
2.Bills
3.Copeland
4.Coyte
5.Cummins
6.Hughes
7.Jaques
8.Khawaja
9.Maddinson
10.Nevill
11.O'Keefe
12.Rohrer
13. Warner

Clark's experience is a big loss for the Blues. It's pretty hard to see who are the unlucky two who miss out, especially now that their most experienced bowler has been ruled out. With five recognised batting openers in the team it will be interesting who gets the gig.

Warner is a certainty, been in very good shield form since being given an opportunity over the past month (suprisingly to navy).

Reckon the teams will lineup like this -

Hughes
Warner
Jacques
Khawaja
Katich
Maddinson/Rohrer
Neville
O'Keefe
Copeland
Cummins
Bills

Tas -

Kruger
Cowan
Doolan
Bailey
Cosgrove
Faulkner
Butterworth
Triffitt
Doherty
Hilfenhaus
Maher

Katich, Warner & Khawaja into the NSW team since the last match between these teams stiffens up the batting markedly. Should be a good match with a result either way all but assured on a Bellerive wicket that always has assistance for the bowlers.

Why not? On the back of a ton against the warriors he is a certainty unless he's injured.

It is a 5 day game though, which Warner doesn't recommend himself to. If Warner plays, it suggests to me that the NSW team lack faith in their bowling attack, and will be looking for quick runs to try and get a big target and force a result.

Or if he does play it could mean that they rate the four bowlers selected to do the job :spin

That would be suicide in a 5 day game you have to win to secure the Shield. I'd play as many bwoling options as I could squaeeze into the side. To do that, you select your best 5 day batsmen.

his batting in shield cricket has actually been quite measured.
i think if he is picked it is because they rate him amongst thier best 6 bats.
they might play 5 bowlers, but i would be surprised.

Oh the blissful irony.

Those wonderful world cup teams of 1999, 2003 and 2007, who bequeathed this winning run to the current lot. How appropriate if these battlers would give it up to the might of .... Canada ?!?!?

I am actually enjoying watching Canada put on this display! Patel has slowed right down! was 42 off 24 now on 50 off 37!

Overall 79-1 off 10.2 overs!

I'm almost going for them!
