Yes. I think he should retire after the WC.

If he doesn't I think there will be alot of public backlash for him to step down. I hope it doesn't come to that.

Yes, the ICC guidelines effectively legalised chucking at the international level, even though the laws of the game (as provided by the MCC) haven't.

They had to legalise it, given the world record holder for number of wickets has chucked his entire career and gotten away with it.

It is a disgrace.

I'm no cricket expert, but it seems to me that using our spin bowlers more than the sonic-boom fast blokes could bring more success to Australia. Maybe not as many would suffer injuries too.

I'm backing Ponting in on the incident with Smith. It might have looked petulant, but it was designed to send a message and I reckon it did.

Smith needs to wisen up very quickly if he wants to stay in the Australian team. Ponting clearly called for the catch. Smith continuing to go for it smacks of absolute stupidity, unless he wants to claim he didn't hear the call. Given we were playing Canada, I would find that hard to believe,

That he's petulant? No doubt Smith deserved a firm word but Punter could have handled it better than he did.

I think Punter's days are numbered. I would hate for him to keep playing and see his form continue the way it has been of late. Not a good way to end what has been a fantastic career by Australia's best batsman since Bradman.

Probably not a fair comparison, but when you look at him compared to two of his contemporaries, Sachin and Kallis, who continue making runs in both forms of the game, you can clearly see that age has got a hold of Ricky moreso than the others.

Cmon Tooheys, you've played enough sport to know that if you've done the wrong thing it deserves a wack.

Imagine if Smith does the same amatuerish act in a world cup final & costs his country the title. Moot point cos doubt he will do it again. ;D

In his 4 innings so far in this WC he's averaging 20 with an unimpressive SR of 62. When you couple that with his recent Test form, it's little wonder he's cranky.

I've said it was poor from Smith and it deserved discipline but I thought it looked like Ponting almost lost it with Smith tbh Naisy.
When you couple this with rumours of smashing TV sets etc. I think we're seeing a man under considerable pressure.

Pretty one-sided analysys Tooheys. Dont see much focus heaped on Cameron White who has been in horrible one-day form for a good while.

What does my criticism of Ponting have to do with White?
He's not in good form either.

I get your blinkered loyalty for Punter Tassie Days. It's ok. 8)

Nothing, just funny how one player has your spotlight on them but another similarly performed player doesnt.

& No blinkered loyalty, just think a guy who has led his country to an amazing & never to be beaten 34 consecutive world cup wins deserves a modicum of respect.

i reckon if you read back thru these pages you will find plenty of call for white to be dropped. he has had plenty of spotlight.

Ponting was without doubt a great player a couple of years back and has had an amazing career but time catches up with everyone Naisy.
Do you dispute his form with the bat has been poor?

Agreed. Not so much criticism of Punter though. ;)

Boy what was Steve Smith thinking,Ponting clearly called for the catch & has a right to be annoyed.ln saying that Ponting's overal demeanor is terrible & he continually comes across as a cranky old man. After the world cup he should stand down as askipper.

He's struggled no doubt.

Wait for the real stuff TOO, that's where champions perform. I do agree if he was to fail in the world cup finals there would be a fair bit of pressure on him to retire. But I'm backing him to produe when it matters.

Loved how despite Smiths best efforts he safely held the catch.

Ponting just hates losing, probably why he has been so good.
