Pains me to say , but credit to England for hauling themselves off the floor again. The cut-throat nature of competition in their group may yet serve them , & other nations in that group well , re ‘match fitness’ come the knockout rounds (sorry , but can’t see Bangladesh getting near S Africa in their final game to push the Poms out) . I guess that’s the concern with the Aussies , seemingly had it too easy , with the fortuitous scheduling v NZ immediately after the Christchurch quake , the washout v Sri Lanka . Hopefully , the Pakistan match will be a good hit
out regardless of result.. Prefer D Hussey to Cameron White, who does himself no favours by not bowling , yet will selectors dump the national 20/20 captain , déjà vu ?

Shield final - Those couple of wickets late yesterday critical . Tasmania likely now to keep NSW to approx. 400 , manageable , rather play catch up chasing 500+ . NSW currently 7/354 , Rohrer & O’Keefe the key partnership . Good contest.

Wash your mouth out re: England Marella. ;D

Fair points on the harder schedule. Circumstances have conspired that Aus havent really been tested at all. The Pakistan game comes at a good time.
Navy too cant understand how White gets a game ahead of Hussey. For the prevailng conditions & for what the side requires D.Hussey has White covered in every facet of the game INO.

Can anyone give an update on how the pitch is playing?

Still a fair bit of movement in it for the bowler who bends his back & hits the seam Streak. Especially with the new ball. NSW played & missed a hell of a lot.

Saying that no excuses for the batting team. Just a good cricket wicket thus far with Doherty getting a reasonable amount of spin as well which could make O'Keefe a key player as the match goes on.

& Geez Cummins has some heat on his short balls.

Important start here for Tas, need to protect the free scoring players like Bailey & Cosgrove from the new ball.

Is Cummins the 17/18 year old Navy?

If so, he looked very impressive in the T20 when I saw him. Very sharp indeed.

Thats him Phil.

Has been giving a very accomplished batsman in Ed Cowan the hurry up multiple times today.

Tas 3/160 stumps day2 , Cowan ,the rock,80 n.o , + Cosgrove 19 n.o.

Game well set up now.

Sure is...NSW inexperienced bowlers were starting to flag toward the end of the day . Seem 1 short . See what day 3 brings...

Caught most of today play. Was an excellent competitive days cricket with NSW again edging play to go into day 3 still with the upper hand, but with both teams still firmly believing they could take the title.

As commented Cummins bowled excellently, tired somewhat in his 3rd spell but that is to be expected as a 17 year old. Is a hyge prospect with genuine pace. Copeland also bowled very well , is a throwback to days gone by with his medium pace seamers but he does make the ball talk as his record suggests.

As Marella commented NSW opted to maintain batting strength as opposed to playing an extra bowler. It got them extra runs but it remains to be seen if it will hurt them on the other side.

Cowan is Tas's version on India's Wall Rahul Dravid. Just doesnt lapse in concentration. Whilst it is only a small knock thus far Cossie looked the most accomplished batsman of the day. In another era he would be playing for Australia, which begs the question should he be now as purely on results he should be.

Maybe tassie can declare independence (who'd really know or care?) and play as a separate nation Navy?

Very tight game....NSW only a early wicket or 2 from taking this away from Tassie.

Very true Jukes, Tas take 5 bowlers into every game so have the all-rounder Faulkner at 6.

Still 280 behind so a vital partnership coming up tomorrow morning.

Isn't it enough that England's batting is almost all not English-born .... now they're calling up a South African born fast bowler. Fair dinkum ... I know these blokes (for the most part) were brought up in England and England has a colonial history that lends itself to this situation, but quite frankly I'd be embarrased if such a large number of our players were not born in Australia.

And if it is just a colonial thing, why are they all South African? Probably due to their white parents with English roots returning to the UK when apartheid ended 20 years ago. Couldn't handle it when the playing field got levelled out in SA.

as nice as it would have been to see the poms out of the world cup, i think it is a good thing they got through.
the last 8 will all be evenly matched.

if bangladesh made it through it the most likely result would have been another one sided game. this world cup has had enough of them already.

It is a laughably pathetic format. 42 pool matches to tell us who the top 8 are to play in quarter finals. And from then on it's sink or swim. The shame is that in what few competitive matches there have been, the bottom line was that at the end of the day it probably wouldn't matter who was going to win, except where England were concerned. But if they couldn't beat Bangladesh OR Ireland, they get what they deserve.

Didn't they do this or something similar in the 1996 World Cup and everybody agreed it was a disaster? So why do it again?

I have a suspicion that the leading countries wanted it this way to guarantee a quarter final spot each. None of them were confident enough to think they could reach a top four on merit. Need to rely on luck from the quarters on.

Funny thing is ... this probably suits Australia down to the ground.

isnt this the last world cup with "minnow" nations ie Ireland, Netherlands, Canada etc? Listening to the commentators describing the make up of the Canadian world cup team just hit home to me the farcial situation of it all. The Canadian team is made up of guys who qualify only on passport status, there's no real Canadian cricket competition, the team never play together regularly. It's like: "we need 11 guys to play cricket for us. Find anyone!" That's not really a "nation" playing is it?

Anyway, maybe there should be an A and B grade world cup run concurrently?

i think they are planning a 10 team comp for the next one.
maybe if they want to associate countries to play more they should have a qualifying tournament. maybe the top 6 in the world qualify automatically and countries 7-16 play off for the last 4 spots. they would probably be reluctant to do that tho in case one of the big countries miss out all together.

Tassie 4/228 with a ton to former NSW player Ed Cowan, his opening partner former QLDer Nick Kruger not so lucky with 1! At least former SA player Mark Cosgrove scored a nice 47. Maybe former NSWelshman Adam Maher can wag the tail for Tassie. George Bailey failing with just 9.

A draw coming up?

There already is a qualifying stage for the "minnow" nations Brodders.
