Pitches dont stay the same as the match goes on. Its why there is a dearth of 5th day chases in cricket history.

9 wickets fell on day 4. NSW need another 10 today to win while defending 200. Odds against for sure but hardly insurmountable as decades of cricket has shown.

Anyone who has been involved in a chase to win a premiership knows that chasing runs is never a gimme.

Understand the viewings not for everyone. But it puts the players under pressure that they arent accustomed to throughout the season. That has to be a good experience for players in their quest for higher honours.

Where did he have a dig at Petersen on that footage. As he walks past he has a chat for about 2 seconds.

Wow 9 wickets in one day. Must be a minefield.

Considering there is one shield final a in a calendar year, not sure how much weight that carries for higher selection. And Tassie are not chasing to win.

9 wickets on a day 4 pitch. Day 5 is again different.

Ask near anyone who has played in a shield final if -

a) they didnt gain experience from the match
b) The exhileration of winning a final was one of there highlights of there career.

We dont need to go down the path of England where flags are won just by who finishes higher on the table. Trust navy the feeling of winning is chalk & cheese apart.

On this match, you are obviously not watching todays play if you think there isn't plenty of work for Tas to do.

Drawing an extremely long bow to suggest he was into Petersen for not walking.

Fair enough. I'll give you that it's hard to tell from that vision that he criticised him for not walking.
Given Peterson didn't hit it and the video evidence backed him up, it's unlikely that Ricky would expect him to walk especially given his own views on walking.

Thought you'd be behind sportsmen that play hard but fair & dont give an inch tooheys.

I'm not a fan of the way Ponting plays the game despite his ruthless streak Naisy which has helped the Aussie win a lot of cricket games in the past.
Some might not care but I think he paints a pretty ugly picture compared with how some former Aussie skipper's played the game.

That aside his batting form continues to be weak which as mb says is his biggest concern right now.
Some of the stats published in the press over the last day have been damning.
No wonder he waited for the umpire's decision against the Pakis.

What do you think AB's reaction to Smith would have been if he was in Pontings shoes for that catch Tooheys? ;D

Not often I disagree with Navy on cricket matters, but I reckon Ponting has been bad for Australian cricket. Irrespective of what he said to Peterson on that occasion, his behaviour was disrespectful at best.

Great article about him on the weekend. He was a streetfighter that we tried to turn into a statesman. It didn't work. The only problem is that the administrators took so long to figure it out.

Tas getting the partnership needed now between Doolan & Bailey.

2-118

You can relax. It was all over after tassie's first innings. Hope they celebrate as much as SA did when they won their shield in the 90's (footage was shown on fox saturday).

3-131 now. after a run-out. tassie wouldnt want to lose a few quick wickets now.
they should get there now though.

& a song all on here have sung plenty of times before (with a slight twist).

Well done to George Bailey & everyone involved. Tasmania's 2nd ever shield win following on from its inaugural success 4 years ago. Also there 4th title in 5 years which is an outstanding achievement.

Special well done to Cossie who hit the winning runs to cap an excellent season as the leading first-class run scorer in the country. Would have been sweet for him after being sacked by South Australia last season & not wanted by other states.

Now that is just madness. Did you say the same thing about Steve Wagh and his mental disintegration tactics?

Exactly. Waugh & Border played the game harder & admonished opposition as much as Ponting.

Doesnt seem to change what seems to be everyone's favourite Australian pastime - "Bashing Ricky".
