Does anyone know if there was any reason Smith didnt bowl against Pakistan?

anyone??

curious because we needed wickets and smith's strength as a bowler is that he takes wickets.
if ponting isnt going to bowl him in tight games will/should he played ahead of d. hussey in the knockout stages?

Navy, my mother would have done well captaining Gilly, Haydos, Warne, McGrath, Langer and of course, Ponting. A wonderful collection of players and possibly 5 of our top 10 OF ALL TIME (Langer not quite in that company).

Ponting has been a brilliant batsman - possibly our second best. But: lost key series (and importantly did not do well when it mattered) and has had no idea how to manage spinners after Warne retired.

My opinion stands

Yeah, but he's a Tasmanian and that trumps all other arguments.

That he's been bad for cricket? Or that he's been a bad captain?

Even just on one innings - his 140 not out off 121 balls in the 2003 World Cup Final against India he has been good for Australian cricket.

Continues Snaps continues.

I don't think we've seen anything yet Leysy. The only thing that could derail the juggernaut in the future is national call-ups, which could see possibly Cowen, Faulkner and Butterworth given a chance in the near future. Doolan is a prospect down the track as well IMO, and throw in the shield leading run scorer this year and we could see a few more representing.

this new 20/20 comp is just trumped up *smile*. is anyone seriously gonna support these plastic, manufactured teams? melbourne stars and melbourne renegades? :rofl surely they could have chosen names that would have appealed to certain areas or demographics of melbourne? no one will support the renegades because they'll be based at etihad. if anyone supports this rubbish comp, they'll be supporting the MCG based team.

Agree Ian,this is crazy, their ruining a good product

I dips me lid to Ponting.

Not a fan of his captaincy and still think he should consider going, but he's showed what a champion player is - performing when it matters. The whole side has played decidedly "indifferently" this whole tournament and this is our one shining light.

Won't be enough though. Reckon we'd have needed 300 to trouble India.

But ... we've got 'em on the board.
