Cricket

Looked to me like Ricky's finger got hurt again when fielding at one point. Poor guy looked like he wanted to throw up.

If he does call it quits/is pushed, at least he's going out on a high with a hundred.

Didn't see any of the game unfortunately, but no great surprise that we got done.

A very ordinary tournament from the Aussies.

my 2 cents... i'm staggered by people praising ponting. i watched the last 10 overs of australias innings and i thought he was very selfish guiding himself to 100 at the expense of his own team. he never really turned it on in the last 10 overs and it cost us 20-30 runs and the game.

Not one of the more intelligent posts on the thread.

The delay in replacing Bolly is v good news for M Hussey. He will get a chance to prove his fitness here and fly over in the next week or so for the important matches.
And wasn't that a bonus.Getting M Hussey over to India has been a stroke of genius.lt was a very well compiled 3 last night he made.

what? the truth isn't very intelligent? yes, in fairness i didn't see his whole innings, but i have no doubt he was guiding himself to the century by knocking it around for singles in the 90's. in the batting powerplay with 5 wickets in hand he should have been trying to smash every ball out of the ground. india won with less than 3 overs to spare right? an extra 20 runs might have won us the game.

Well done Ricky on great 100.
Been a great cricketer for Australia but I think on a personal note maybe a good time to retire, there is nothing else left to achieve. The Ashes in 2013 i think are too far away.

I though Ponting was good, but clearly well below his best.

D Hussey showed how do do it in his cameo. After 70 balls, Ricky was 50-odd. He HAD to start taking risks at that point. We were not going to beat India with 250, which is where we were heading. I would have preferred Ricky pin his ears back and get to 100 off 95 and risk going out at 70.

Perhaps he was conscious of the news reports (as was what inevitably happened to S Waugh in his last 2 seasons).

If a guy gets 104 off 118 balls out of 260 & you believe he doesnt deserve praise. Sorry Ian that aint the truth.

He held the innings together for the side to bat around him. Hardly his fault guys like Clarke, White & M>Hussey couldnt accelerate around him to get that extra 20 required.

BTW in his last 10 overs at the crease he scored 38 off 32 balls. Not brutal but hardly pedestrian either.

Pontings job at that stage was to bat through, whilst others hit around him. You know enough about cricket to realise that L&D.

Its those guys you should be pointing the finger at.

At the end of the day old Punter's overall had a poor tournament and the team he's captained has been knocked out at the quarter final stage.
We've also failed to regain the Ashes under his watch after failing with the bat.

It's time to at the very least hand over the captaincy to Clarke and I believe it would be healthier for him make way for a younger player in both forms of the game as the rebuild of Australian cricket continues. However for that to happen it looks like (as with AB) the ACB is virtually going to have to push him out and he deserves better so he should retire.

I thought I smelled a rat when Gambhir seemed hell bent on running himself at ( which he succeeded in eventually). I thought we may see a collapse here. I guess this is the after-effects of gambling on cricket, when something odd happens people start to suspect.

not out of a score of 260 which was never gonna be enough on the flat indian pitches and small grounds. 300 is a par score. if his strike rate was over 100 we would have got the extra 20 or so runs we needed.

when i came home from the footy he was in his early 80's and he only scored 1 boundary (from 87-91) until he got out. and he definitely knocked the ball around during the batting power play so he could reach his 100. you call it holding the innings together. i call it putting yourself ahead of the team.

Unfortunately not much MB.

Though if we'd played D.Hussey in White's slot it could have been a lot better.
And you were keen for M Hussey to come on board & he did.Should have played Ferguson.

Fair call that Ponting goes as skipper but Clarke's batting has been poor so can't see why he should be handed captaincy.

Sorry 300 was not a par score. No way. Did you watch the game & see the pitch.

Of course if his strike rate was higher we would have scored more. Same for every batsman. But harsh (in fact wrong) to be giving it to the man who scored a hundred at a strike rate of 88 when in the same match you have -

Clarke 8 off 19 balls
Hussey 3 off 9
White 12 off 22.

no, i only watched the last 10 overs (i did state this earlier). ok 300 might have been an exaggeration, but i think we can agree that 260 wasn't a par score and imo ponting needed to do more to get the score up.

260 was very close to a par score. It was very defendable if we bowled well, which unfortunately we didnt.

Poor old Punter even when he plays out of his skin the knockers are out.
