What am i missing here? Whats the relevance of an innings Ponting had 2 years ago?

Well done Ricky Ponting.

The knockes can get stuffed. You have been an outstanding servant of Australian cricket :clap
Totally agree - proud to say he has been my favourite player, even beats Boon and Gregie Chappell.

Now I can sit back and watch him bat down the order and make his 50 100's in test cricket.

Truly great player . After Bradman there is Waugh , Border and Ponting all having claims to be our next best . If I wanted to watch anyone play out of those 3 it would be Ponting any day .

Also one of the best fielders we have ever had.

Just how hard it will be to replace him as a batsman when he does go can be seen very clearly by our performances since he has stopped making runs.

Not sure if he will get that chance.

We have a history of retiring Captains permanently, a position I am comfortable with. ricky might want to play on, but whther he will get picked is another matter.

maybe being hard on Greg Chappell on that list . make it S. Waugh , Ponting , Border and G Chappell :)

In living memory I presume. There have been some pretty handy players in the history of Test Cricket who could put their hand up for the mantle of our 2nd best.

New Zealand are not out of it against Sri Lanka. Batting first NZ are 3/138 off 34 overs. After the 3rd wicket it was hard seeing them make more than 220/230 but 250 is a possibility here. Current partnership is 55 off 75. They need to start throwing the bat around/

One can only hope but he has put the selectors in a very tough spot.

Punter wants to go on as a player but admitted himself in his presser that he's unlikely to be around for Australia's next major challenges.

Certainly does not deserve to finish his career with the ignominy to be dropped as a batsman so if he does get picked (I wouldn't) I hope scores some runs.

Some sportsmen certainly know when the time to go is better than others & I really think he missed a chance to call it a day.

Doherty & Pattison only real changes to vets side that lost the world cup.No wonder we a joke,we are going to Bangladesh.

yeah , can't really speak about Neil Harvey, who is another mentioned in the same way, or even further back than that .

I am talking batsman of course . Reckon Warnie would have claims as our 2nd greatest test player of all time .

looks like Strauss is resigning as one day captain. will remain as test captain.

the kid, Broad to take over as 1 day captain

BTW congrats to Michael Clarke.
I think he shows a bit as a skipper tactically but he has huge shoes to fill especially at a time when Aussie cricket is in the doldrums after decades of success.
He'll need to do well personally and have a lot of luck to keep the wolves at bay.

His captaincy has been okay but he needs to make runs. He's lucky to get the gig with his recent form.
